TMGM must love this kid . Look what he gave up fir him and Des Lauriers. I think he gets it done as fast as he can.

True... I get it
It would obviously just be better if we could figure out a way to get him signed without having to protect him

It's hard to prove this early but the theory that their patience could triumph over our (over)aggressiveness isnt wrong
- Sabresfan-365

Maybe I'm not reading this right but if I am reading it like your saying they are being patient and therefore better than us I have to say you're wrong.

How have they been patient? They are doing a similar thing to us yet lack a player of Eichel's caliber. Marner is probably close to Reinhart in terms of ceiling and both players spent another year in juniors. Marner will probably be in NHL next year. Especially if they don't get Stamkos. They also still have plenty of vet contracts on the roster that have been injured this year. So not like they have all this freedom.

I'm not saying don't sign him...
Just wait a couple weeks so we don't have to potentially protect him

I wouldn't think that waiting a couple weeks would cause him to not wanna sign here, but if that's the case (like Lemieux), then I guess I'd trade him

They posted the GMTM interview on WGR. He said that college players in their 3rd and 4th years would not be exempt...

saying Panarin is in second contradicts your whole statement. The guy is 24, and on Chicago-a dynasty team, and playing with P. Kane. I'm not saying Eichel deserves it, I really don't care about these stupid awards, but McDavid getting hurt is a factor, you can't be the best rookie this year if you don't play. Can we allow a player to play one game, score two goals and say he finished up the year at a 2 ppg scoring pace? No, of course not. If anybody deserves the Calder it's the kid from Philly.
- sskkoo1

I think you need to look the word "contradict" up in the dictionary. I did nothing of the sort

You're implying that Panarin is precluded from winning the award because he plays on a strong team, and that's nonsense. Gost makes a strong case, like you say, and in other years he'd be the guy

I'd actually compare nylander with reinhart seeing as how they're from the same draft.

They haven't done the same as us (mostly because they started later than us) We traded a ton of picks and prospects to get guys like o'reilly kane etc.. The articles argument was that the patience of the leafs organization (so far anyways) may yield a better franchise long term.

When it comes to teams we'll be competing with...
The Leafs are way far down on my list of concerns

I didn't even waste my time reading that article
Skimmed the replies, and saw one guy who said he'd rather have Nylander, Marner & Reilly than Eichel, Reinhart & Ristolainen
I literally laughed out loud & then exited out of that page
Leafs fans are something else

Not sure what we have in either IMHO. Bailey has lit it up in the AHL very recently but didn't get a point when he was up in BUF, though he played fast. Faeshing was a point a game player this year as a junior which is nice but not outstanding. Not fair to compare but Eichel was a 1.7 point per game player as a freshman last year.

Meh, not many guys absolutely go off in college.

GMTM also said that nobody on the roster has a no move. He's either a colossal idiot or the info on Bogo is incorrect.

I just think being a 24 year old that played multiple seasons in the KHL should be considered

I wonder if the expansion draft is looming in Murray's head. Burning a year now would expose him, right?
- Deuce81

Not necessarily. There seems to be disagreement about the 2nd year pro thing. And whether it means going into the 2nd year or coming out of the 2nd year. There's still a ton that needs to be ironed out like whether NTC and NMC are exempt, can be protected, or have to be protected. The latter being impossible for the Blackhawks. And a bunch more that needs to get straightened out, but those are the two main issues.

Right...
If they're still in college

I'm not saying I wanted Fasching to go back for his senior year
I'm just saying I wanted to sign him after this season is over...
That way NEXT year would be year 1, this meaning we wouldn't have to protect him if the expansion draft happens after next season like I think most are guessing it will

Would his agent not use that as leverage though? Sign my client now or risk losing him for nothing either way?

Could have been just babbling . I take whatever question he answers with a grain of salt. Similar to asking your boss something and he gives you the run around. After he goes and does the opposite, comes back (maybe) with circumstances changed...next topic?

Is there not a cap on that?
- Sabresfan-365

ROR's signing bonus next year is $10M with a $1M base salary. Maybe it's different for ELCs? Most everything is.

Edit: Never mind I kept reeding.

I think they wait till next year too announce it . Teams wanted the draft to be the deadline and I don't think they will have it all worked out by then. Too many what abouts and so and so.

Didn't sound like babbling. Schopp asked him point blank and he just said "We don't have anyone with a no move clause"

It can't be higher that's my point and isn't there a set max for rookies on salary even the ones coming out of college?
- Sabresfan-365

Eichel has the max ELC you can get. $925K $2.85M performance bonus and $92.5K signing bonus.

I meant in terms of playing position and draft position. O'Riley is a vet but they have vets too in JVR Lupul and Bozak. Kane and Bogosian was a hockey trade which was rare. I know we gave up Lemiux and to a lesser extent Armia in that deal and Compher in the deal for RoR but we still kept core guys like Fasching, Bailey, Guhle, Cornell, Borgen. We have been patient with them too. I don't see how they are being "patient". Especially when they are rumored to spend 10-11 million on Stamkos if they get him

I don't think they will either, but they do have 3 months to get it done. They should get it done, but these are the guys that presided over 2 work stoppages in 8 years, because they couldn't get poop done. Well not Fehr, he only has one.

Maybe it's split? like next 2 years is a no trade and then after that it's a nmc? i dunno i just found it really surprising how contradictory the info was

I think JVR and co. fall under the pommer/vanek category. They haven't really made any major moves outside of hiring babcock. Of course that could change this summer...
