Better than the cap going down, which I recall some were worried about
- funmaster18

There were concerns that the cap could drop as much as $4mm due to the instability of the Canadian dollar. If the players don;t use the escalator, the cap could remain stagnant-which doesn't kill the Flyers, fortunately.

MDZ played 467 minutes with Gudas and they had 54.8 CF% despite getting 45.9% OZ starts and being used against other teams top lines. That large stretch is the only reason MDZ finished his season with above break even possession numbers.

Without Gudas, MDZ was a 48 CF% dman starting in the OZ 49.8% of the time. A mediocre possession defenseman in other words.

Ok...I see where this is headed. Think what you want, Feanor. I'm comfortable with my opinion, I don't know what else I can write, and I don't really feel like arguing with you about this. Let's just agree that it is a travesty Gudas has spent a gigantic 13 minutes with Ghost this season, and that could have been a rocking pairing.

Ghost plays 190 minutes with MacDonald with a 49.7 CF%, 61.5 GF% and 58.3% OZ starts = that awful AMac is pulling down Ghost's possession numbers!

Ghost plays 121 minutes with Del Zotto for a 48.2 CF%, 40 GF% and 55.9% OZ starts = small sample size, nothing to see here.

If you have a 50% CF on the Kings, that is awful.

If you have a 50% CF on the Flames, you're ameezing.

Apples and oranges, aka "The Robyn Reghr Law." The Flyers today are closer to the Kings possession wise. The Flyers prior were closer to the Flames. As I said, when MacDonald is off the ice, the team has a 56% Corsi for. Those numbers don't exist in a vacuum. If you lead your team with 49%, is that worse than being the worst on another team with 51%? No. It's better.

EDIT: I don't think MDZ's debilitating injury he played through for that time should necessarily be discounted either. Just a side note.

Either way good thing hextall was able to get them in a better position. Love the way they're playing right now too. Can't wait to see more kids next year.

Are you sure? Some prospects play a year+ of professional hockey before they're even draft eligible. Lindblom isn't even signed to an elc yet right? Pretty sure it's NA pro hockey.

Sorry, kind of being a smart ass. The NHL point system is out of whack because of the 3 point games. It is hard to say what a teams point % really is anymore.
All I did was add 5 additional available points available as a result of those 3 point games.

Last weekend for example, people say the Flyers got 3 out of 4 points on their Florida trip which would be .75, however they really got 3 points out of 5 available so .60 in reality. They won 2 out of 2 points in TBay, then they got 1 point vs Florida while Florida got 2 points, so a 3 point total game

I dont understand how a league can have a different point value available per game, 2 or 3

- flyhoc

That's not how math works though. A team can never get 3 points out of a game. That comes from the total of both teams

Hakstol emphasizes controlled exits and entries. Really it's not like the defense group this year is better than that group. Even last year under Chief they chipped out a ton. And while Schultz still does it a lot, the corps as a whole emphasizes controlled exits with their center breakout. It's really what must be done to succeed in today's game. Now just imagine when the d prospects come up. Breakouts will be off the charts with Provy or Sanheim or Ghost skating it up at will.

I love Hakstol's system. I think it has the makings of a Cup style game.

Remember at the beginning of the season when all they did was dump the puck in?

Aboslutely. It pissed many of us off. But you know what I love? He saw it was failing...and adjusted pretty quickly. Now they really emphasize controlled entries. The book on Hakstol was that he was very capable of adjusting year to year based on the given strengths of his UND teams. I think he's proven that right.

They are playing like a team, a true team. This is great to see and watch. Good time of year to start firing on all cylinders. Is it the coach, is it that G has matured into being the captain, the team getting their heads on right, or all of the above?

There is no way they don't resign Schenn, right?
