Good point...
What are your thoughts on them extending him?
MDZ, Ghost, Provorov, Sanheim, Morin and Gudas?
Would take that config. - opeth_pa
No rush to reup MDZ. Flyers will have another year to evaluate their d prospects before deciding whether MDZ is part of a long term picture. |

He's gotta realize everyone hates him - Just5
For Umby, if he gets bought out he pockets $3 million over two years. If I'm him, why not continue to play to at least pocket that money? I know I would because there is a good chance whatever RJ does in a second career he won't earn $3 million in two years.
I never begrudge any player for maximizing their income in all situations when they are still playing.

I'd get fired on the spot were I to present charts that look like that. |

I'm not saying I expect he'll leave millions on the table, but I wouldn't be surprised if Umberger hung em up this summer. He earned his way off the roster, he knows he's cooked. - BulliesPhan87
Maybe he has a son he wants to hang out with like Adam Laroche of the White Sox. Dude walked away from 13 million dollars because the White Sox said his kid wasn't allowed at the ballpark every day. |

he rounded out his game well and fulfilled the role asked of him, gotta think teams will pay up for that adaptability. I could see between 5 and 6. - BulliesPhan87
Exactly... although he seems to really have found his spot here so he might take a little less considering.. |

It'd be nice to get him on a favorable contract, add some stability with the youth movement. I'll let Hexy worry about all that though, I'll stick to the whole "lazy fan" thing. |

I never heard the story of why mjl got banned... what did he say/do? He did get banned right? - benjichronic
Not to single you out, but in all seriousness who gives a flying (frank)? The thread has been easy to read, with good conversation. The constant nit picking the poop out of every single post is beyond old. Disagreement is fine, but arguing semantics for hours on end is absurd. |

By end of next year, Streit and Schultz's contracts expire. The only player currently on the roster due a hefty raise not already calculated is Schenn. Hexy really has done a fantastic job getting the cap issues under control even with the AMac contract still on the books. He could get MDZ resigned long-term after next season and still be in really good cap shape.

So when does mdz come back. I know they said season ending but that seems like it was based on missing playoffs. thoughts? |

Eh, I think bubble charts are the logical choice for this one. Having four data points plotted on one chart (GF With, GF Without, TOI, position) tends to limit your selection. Some of the other charts could benefit from resizing with all of the points plotted in the center. Either way, Tableau is a fun tool..... |

Frankly, I don't know how anybody gets useful information out of them. They're so damn cluttered, and the relative size of circles isn't doesn't convey precise information. |

I think there may be ulterior motives. I think the White Sox were in the right asking his kid not be there every day. They are there to get work done. Having a young kid in the clubhouse, on the field, etc... puts the other players in a compromising position. They probably feel like they have to step on egg shells around him. Laroche has been on the White Sox one maybe two years. And he didn't perform all that well. Don't think he has the right to bring his kid to the field every day. Not too many professions would allow someone to bring their kid to work every day. Also, why isn't his kid in school? |

I kind of agree with the team stance. It's a workplace, not a playground.
His reaction, however, is kind of extreme. |

Agreed on the clutter. It could benefit from an auto-zoom. Those types of charts aren't best for precise information. It's all about relativism and how player A stacks up against the sample. I don't think you'd use that chart to make a detailed decision. You'd probably use it to identify issues/outliers and then dig deeper from there. |
