Those 4 are a perfect example of how far behind talent wise this team has been the last 3 years.
- yen6d1

I'd go as far as since briere and soupy moved on

the core was that bad aside from pommer IMO

I don't think it's hate on Girgensons, I just think people expected more after he took the team by storm the past two years. The same thing happened with Foligno when he first got called up in 2011. At this point, imo Larsson is not that far away from being another Girgensons (a shutdown 3rd line center) Girgs may be still better right now, but he also brings back more as a trade piece. With Girgensons injuries, I would be fine with shipping him out of here as a cornerstone piece in lets say a trade for Drouin. Larsson seems capable of taking over his role, and if Girgs + can bring us a top 6 winger, than do it.
- sskkoo1

I have my doubts about Drouin, kind a hard to give up a lot for him as of now, I know he was a 3rd overall pick.

We waited to long to move Pommer IMO, i've never been a big fan of his. I liked Vanek more.

how can you say that when gus leads him in scoring and has a better plus/minus rating?
- Michael Pachla

B/c 12-22-82 are forced to play a defensive role against stronger opponents.
With this team actually playing real hockey again you're starting to see what structure can do for players. Players like 4 & 82 have benefited and 28 have not.

Not saying Gus is an AHLer but he's not a Top 6 guy (either is Larsson) but id rather had 22 in the 3c spot.

I'm overreacting because a guy that's in the top 6 has no business there but some seem him as the " chosen one " and i'm overreacting ? no, just tired of seeing this team suck
- SABRES 89

I never saw anyone imply that he was the chosen one

Put Vanek on this team now and see, not saying he's a world beater but it's better now then before.

underperforming

nothing more
nothing less

the way he blends in with the ice, where I don't see him, reminds me way too much of the suck sisters

- homiedclown

toally agree with the underperforming part...as for the suck sisters?...not so sure about that...but...

so be it

Pretty much was beaten to death that Vanek needed that #1 center on this team. Now we have a bunch and need a #1 winger for our centers.

I know a lot of people didn't like Vanek but you put him with 90 or 15 and see what happens.

I agree. I feel like bc we said he's not a top 6 guy then he should be in the press box.
False he's a solid 3rd liner. but to use captain and untouchable with his name is crazy .

He needed that 5 years ago... You better hope that line has a 100% success rate on that first shot because if not you're screwed, Vanek is gassed and no one is coming back to play defense

I agree. That's why I'm not will to overpay for Drouin either, but Tampa will want something in value as a return. I'm not will to part with our first rounder, so looking at the team I think Girgs would be the piece that would start negotiations. To me, Girgensons and Larsson are not that far off. Girgensons has sort of regressed while Larssons is getting it together, the result has been a narrowing of the gap. Realistically we only need only one shut down center, so one of these guys is expendable. Currently over the past two seasons Girgensons has been injured quite a bit, and it looks like he may just be a injury prone player. So, this off season if a deal can be made that gets a top 6 winger or top 4 defensemen, I would do it.

I thought Tampa wanted a young controllable D man for him ? maybe i'm wrong. I though I read they didn't want a huge contract coming back.

For sure, look at the top teams in the league now. Since those two (23,48) left, Vanek and pommer are the only 'true' top 6 guys that this team had in a long time. Staff, roy and ennis are on the bubble.

he played sporadically with Eichel...so did Larsson...and Larsson also had the benefit of some first unit pp time yet he's produced less than the "never-a-top-six, friggen'-super-bum" Girgensons

overreaction

- Michael Pachla

I know O'Reilly doesn't deserve a 3rd line roll, but once he comes back, maybe put him on a line with Girgensons to get him going???

I don't want to see line 1 and 2 broken up. Finally some chemistry developing.

Could be worth it if Ennis was coming back too, to at least have talent on that line - otherwise who's the 3rd on that line?
