I think he will still be an elite goal scorer for the next 5+ years. He's taking less shots and is getting less ice time.

He and Cooper don't see eye to eye

No longer the only offensive option there, makes me wonder if it would be any different here..

There's NO WAY we'll have to give up anything close to that for his rights...
IF we even bother to trade for them

Stamkos has the ntc, remember?
And assuming he'd only accept a trade to a team he wants to sign with, why would he ok a deal where the Sabres are giving up quality assets?
Doesn't make sense

- jdfitz77

You're assuming we are the only team he'd waive his rights for. If he's willing to go to Tor and Nsh (as examples) then TB can get a bidding war going. I think it's 100% feasible that the price to pay will be high.

It's possible he NEVER hits 30 goals on another team. Just sayin .....

Come on now, your just finding ways to be negative about going for Stamkos.

I'd rather give you names of the deadwood that we should dump
- fastek

That has nothing to do with signing Stamkos

U keep saying it'll prevent future moves,
Yet won't be SPECIFIC about the guys you'd want

The reason I'm asking for specifics is bc I'd MUCH rather have...
Stamkos, Larsson & Foligno
than
Versteeg, Boedker & Handzus

For example

I'm assuming that bc he has an NTC,
That he'd ONLY accept a trade to where he wants to play

Thus, negating any kind of potential bidding war
Whether it's us, the Leafs or whoever...
It just makes sense he wouldn't want his new team giving up all kinds of assets to get his rights when he can sign there for free July1

- IonSabres

You're the one who can apparently see the future...
But sure,
Totally makes sense that a guy who's been an amazing scorer for his career will just get worse & worse

All I'm asking for is reasons u think he'll trend this way...
And you've given NONE

And it's "possible" that Foligno scores 30

Come on...

Either be realistic,
Or support that opinion with some logical reasons

- jdfitz77

There's no guarantee is my point and perhaps once he gets "paid" ...... he becomes something else. It's happened before many times in every sport and that's the risk you take.

So i am miffed at Byle for breaking up 9-15-23.
Maybe it gets Girgensons going again, we'll see.
But I really liked those 3 together.

I guess it does reinforce the fact we need 2 more in the top 6.

What are the lines looking like?

The point I'm trying to make is by paying someone like Stamkos the money it will take to pry him from not only Tampa but Toronto ... it disrupts your team and straps your ability to go after other pieces necessary to compete for a cup.

Are you willing to accept another 5 years of the current roster PLUS Stamkos and be a fringe playoff team? Because I think that's all he brings to the table.

Playing on a line with Eichel and Reinhart, I'm pretty sure he hits 30. Actually there's probably a better chance that he hits 50 than doesn't bit 30

I'm wondering if Calgary can hold on to a three goal lead with 20 minutes to play. If they can .........perhaps they win another 2-3 in a row.

Disrupts us from what though?
Signing Versteeg to make our 3rd line better?
I'll just stick with Foligno, or Girgs, or Bailey, or Fasching...
And so on

U continue to avoid examples of these "bottom 6" upgrades u want to see us make INSTEAD of signing a true top line guy

I'm just trying to understand who you're so afraid we'd miss out on?

Plus,
Teams at the Cap make moves EVERY year at the trade deadline to do stuff like upgrade their 3rd line
I'll worry about that then
Not now when we can potentially sign a goal scoring stud

Kane O'Reilly 2016 1st rd pick possibly.

Exbibit a: Reference Chicago operational manual - works pretty well there.

Kane-ROR-(fin winger)
Girgs-Larsson-Ennis
Foligno-Schaller-Gionta

That's with no trades
If we did wanna trade Ennis, Girgs, whoever...
That's where u see what guys like Fasching & Bailey can do

What's your possible lineup without Stamkos?

Never thought I'd say this but I actually like Cal O'Reilly as a 4th line center instead of schaller. He's very good on draws and, unlike all of these other Rochester call-ups, actually gets points. In his brief NHL game logs he has a very respectable point per game ratio
