Right, but you are getting an elite player. Every team needs them.

Also, in reference to the comparison, the main issue with Bogo is the fact that when we are good/great he's hopefully your 4th best defensemen.

5 mil is a lot for him. At worst Stamkos is your 2nd best player through probably the duration of his contract

- sbroads24

Let me get this right...
You hope Bogo is 4D so a market rate contract is bad.
And you hope Stamkos is elite over the life of his contract, so a $3m overpayment is a goal we should pursue?

Yeah you're right that it isn't perfect BUT if you even have a remote chance of getting a top 5 talent at no cost other than $$, you pursue it, and if you're lucky enough to sign him the positioning will work itself out. Not many times will you find an elite 26/27 year old available. I'm sure one of Eichel, Stamkos and O'Reilly can play wing. Also, the stories of Stamkos's demise have been greatly exaggerated. It's the state of the lousy product not any residual affect of the injury. I've been watching TB games and he flies around the ice. He's got Jack's speed, Reinhart's passing ability and plays very hard. One thing though, he does look small to me, though I know he's probably ,6'1". Looks very skinny.
- turbo044

Everyone knows he's great ......... that can't even be argued. The folks that have a problem with him coming here is based on cost and what it does to the team moving forward. Nothing more to it than that really. Oh and plus the fact he's not the last piece to the puzzle ..........

If their is one thing to overpay for, it's one of the best players in the league

Stamkos is a goal we should pursue. At all costs.

He is a great player in his prime. That could be acquired without having to give up assets.

I don't get how he and Bogosian are comparable. Would we really care about the 3 mil extra when he's scoring 40 goals?

Remains to be seen. Eichel absolutely. Reinhart looks awesome right now, but just for comparisons sake, Stamkos potted 51 at his age

Can't see why people have a problem with trying to get Stamkos, we almost had him but at the cost of Eichel. It may only cost money now.

But you want them to tank? So the point here isn that we have several in the making it's that you wouldn't want to add another one at 11 mil when you can get one for free. Difference being the rookie isn't going to score 40 in his first 3 years.

He's not the last piece to the puzzle and if you pay him, can the rest of the puzzle be completed? It's just that simple

The #Sabres say Kasdorf will be reporting to Buffalo. Well, that's certainly interesting.

Because of Kasdorf's age, his entry-level deal is for just the rest of this season and he would then become a restricted free agent. According to CapFriendly.com, the deal is for a $667,500 cap hit in the NHL and $70,000 in the AHL, plus games-played bonuses. There is no word from the Sabres on Kasdorf's destination, although the assumption is he will be heading to Rochester.

I just want 3 more weeks of crappy play, land in the top 3, draft a sniper for NOTHING and take my chances in the off-season with a bunch of available money to fill out the team. Is this too damn much to ask ???

I would argue $10m or $11m for an elite rare UFA isn't overpayment.

Question is can you get enough out of him during the good years (before 30) to offset the potential sharp decline you'll see during the bad years (after 30). If they address the D I believe the answer is yes.

Stamkos or not Murray is probably going to make a play for a high profile player. I'd rather it only cost cap space

I don't care about monster individual stats by one or two guys in the lineup ....... I want production all the way through. I think that will be the trend in the NHL going forward.

That article I posted a while back (The 25 year old peak one) had numbers in there that showed that the top echelon players usually still produce at a high rate after 30

High rate sure but worth 11 mil? Still a risk Id take though. If only because it would allow me to troll my own city.

I understand the hesitation in paying him, but I think the moment he puts on a Sabre sweater most would just be estatic.

89, I think you have to preface that statement by saying we're all in if it gets to that point. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that TB doesn't get a deal done or trades his rights to somebody other than BUF. One thing that hasn't been mentioned that works in the Sabres' favor is contract structure wouldn't be a concern. They'd prob structure the contract, like they did with O'Reilly, bonus driven to allow him to avoid the luxory tax
