there are tax planning strategies or salary cap avenues that can be explored to lessen the impact.

the easiest solution for the leafs is to offer stamkos a bonus heavy contract (that presumably TB won't be able to match) to avoid a big chunk of the 17% or so escrow.

I would think the guys I posted that actually manage many nhlers funds would know best.

they post a generic tax rate.

kessel utilized Canadian non-residency rules to reduce his tax burden.

phanuef did not, got stuck paying the rate in the link.

edit: and the escrow is a CBA rule, not tax.

Duh.

I didn't state anything about any of that. Gavin Management group actually manages many of these guys funds. I'm sure they know more than you or I about the actual tax laws and loopholes.

Detroit is getting very old and did you say NJ and Stanley Cup in the same sentence?

I love the logic of, "you have Datsyuk, Kronwall, & Zetterberg...which means your whole team is old'.

Wings have been old in most eyes for the last 20 years, how's that gone for ya?

altho there is no way it would ever happen, it's hard not to dream about Tavares and Stamkos together.

It does matter.

8.5m in Tampa = ~11m in Toronto.

- Feds91Stammer

He is not taking 8.5 million from Tampa. They aren't getting any tax discount.

I'm not necessarily saying it isn't true, but who was the last Toronto born star who did what everyone is hoping Stamkos will? Lots of factors come into play once they're actually in the league.

He is saying that is what it equals. Not what he would take.
