actually no, I want to be in Chicago's position of draft and development.

Yeah. I don't want to say the Rangers got lucky, but it'd be hard to replicate the ways they got their best players. Finding a HOF goalie in the 6th round, trading a bad center making a lot of money for a prospect who became one of the best defenseman in the league. Signing top college free agents that everyone else wants too.

They've been one of the better teams in the east for a few years, but they made one run with the help of injuries to several teams then got waxed in the finals. It's not like this is some dynasty that dominates people. Teams like Washington, Tampa, Boston (pre-Sweeney) and the Islanders are better teams to try and replicate IMO. Those teams have been and are built for sustained contention. Rangers window could close pretty soon.

Can you live with not making the playoffs for half a decade straight?

that's happened once in flyers history. 1990-94. it's not going to happen again in the immediate future.

Also if you bump that 5 year window back to 10-11 season, we have the same number of Stanley Cup Final appearances. And what better proof of building through trades and FA as not being sustainable than to look at the shape the flyers have been in since Pronger's career ended suddenly.

I would certainly NOT want to jump from where we are today to where they are today.

New York has drafted both defense and a top 5 goaltender and you don't want this?

spoken like a true dbag? knuckle dragging troll? give me a (frank)ing break. you are the epitome of a rangers fan - the scourge of the nhl and humans everywhere. typical new yorker.

do i need to remind you, that YOU came in here, a flyers board, trolling? the two teams aren't even playing against one another today. so i ask again, WHY are you here? to troll. to incite. to be the bumhole ranguhs fan that you are. that's why.

neither team has won the cup in the last 5 years...a rather arbitrary number for you to choose. tell ya' what, i'll take the flyers body of work over the history of their franchise versus what the rangers have done in that same time period. it's really not even close. are you still pissed the flyers beat them in 74? swept the rangers in 95 to unseat them? beat them in 97 to usher in a 7 year playoff drought? prevented them from making the playoffs in 2010? which is it?

your king has won nothing, and will win nothing as a ranger. it's a shame he's wasting his talent on the scrubs around him. they should do him a favor and trade him to a team where he has a chance to win.

i'd rather be where we are - with 2 excellent goalies and on the way up than where the rangers are. our first prospect is already making a huge impact. 2, 3, or 4 more of them will be arriving in the next few seasons and should help them as well. while your team is scraping the bottom of the barrel for free agents and whatever else they can find while the window is rapidly closing, and when it closes, without a cup, you will be left with nothing. again.

Why would I want to jump from the window opening to the window closing? Why would I skip the part in the middle? No doubt in my mind, I would not trade places.

Statistically, it's better to have a larger window than to cash in all assets for a strong 3-year run.

If you were to ask me who is closer to a cup, it's clearly the Rangers, but if you were to ask me who is more likely to win a cup over the next 10 years, I would say the Flyers.

I don't know what any of this means.

The Rangers took the time to draft and develop young talent and now are in the conversation for deep runs every year, which is exactly what we're trying to do.

I don't even understand what your trying to prove here.

Cash in what chips? What 3 year window? I want to be apart of the conversation for a Cup by doing what the Rangers have done, by following our current blue print.

Lundqvist, Staal, Krieder and Stephen are all drafted Rangers property. The rest were smart signings are trades for young talented like Girardi and McDonagh.

im not stirring anything up. I said your not winning a cup with mason and I will take the last 5 ranger years to yours. You guys don't like it when somebody talks negatively about your team it's trolling so what I don't care not about you your dirty pathetic team or your fan base so suck it

You've had a future HoF goaltender in net for a decade and have only been to the Finals once.

Bye Felicia.

I was just checking out their draft history because I was wondering how many Dmen they actually drafted. Hank, everyone knows by now, was drafted by NYR in round 7 of 2000 draft. But here's the Dmen they've drafted that have played about 100+ number of NHL games since that 2000 draft and current drafted Dmen on their roster:

2001, 2nd rnd - Fedor Tyutin - 798gms
2001, 6th rnd - Marek Zidliky - 832gms
2005, 1st rnd - Marc Stall - 602gms
2005, 2nd rnd - Michael Sauer - 98gms (retired)
2006, 1st rnd - Bobby Sanguinetti - 42gms (Thank you!)
2008, 1st rnd - Del Zotto - 433gms
2010, 1st rnd - Dylan McIlrath - 34gms
2012, 1st rnd - Brady Skjei - 4gms

Girardi was an undrafted FA signing - 712gms

When the Flyers do eventually become a true contender, I don't want to see them continually trading away picks and prospects like the Rangers have. I'm not saying they can't make trades, but it's important to keep young players coming through the system in order to prolong the window. Rangers have a terrible farm system and only 1 top 60 pick in the next two years. They've basically moved all chips to the table for this year and next year. Things could begin going south pretty soon for them.

What's the difference between the Rangers signing young talent Girardi or trading for a young player like McDonagh before entering the NHL like we have with Brayden Schenn? We didn't draft Simmonds or Voracek. There is nothing wrong with making moves for youth for a bright future.

I really don't have a problem with how the Rangers have built their team (even if their window has been relatively short and objectively fruitless). I don't have a problem with cashing in when you're a real contender either (See: Chicago, LA). I just have no desire to skip from "team on the upswing" to "second rate contender, already gone all in". The best is yet to come.

Who have the Rangers regrettably given away? Lundqvist was drafted with the Rangers. Stephen, Staal and Krieder were drafted with the Rangers. Girardi and McDonagh are smart moves for youth, as we did for Voracek, Simmonds and Schenn.
