He played well with Larsson on the 3rd line earlier in the season. It creates matchup problems for the other teams.
- sbroads24

you can plug a guy on the 3rd line and still get him 20 minutes a night, see j staal with the pens

between special team ice time (meaningless minutes) and putting your 3rd line on the ice for 14 minutes a night

That's fine too
But you'll find the same ppl saying that Larsson & Foligno have no business in the top6 also
All I'm saying is that it's still tbd exactly where Girgs will end up slotting in

- jdfitz77

I'll make a bet of any amount of money that Girgs is not in our top 6 when we are a playoff team. If he is a staple of your top 6 you're not that good of a team. Period.

Yeah but you're saying take the 3rd line guy who can't score goals and place him in a spot where he can only score put away goals so that your better winger can play on the 3rd line.

Vanek was on the 3rd line because he was a rookie and was playing with Roy who was a 2nd year player. This wasn't the case of putting better guys who have more experience and better track records below guys who have done next to nothing, .35 p/g did we say, just to spread the lines.

I'm not saying you can't put him there but you're squandering his talent, you're squandering Jack's talent, and you're squandering another players talent by trying to put players where they don't belong and make them do things they aren't supposed to do. If we had 1 guy who looked like Jack's #1 winger and we just needed another guy to play next to them then sure but we don't and Girgensons will not be that guy.

- Zschalberg

"Can't score"
He was on pace for 20goals last year playing with Moulson & Ennis
He's got some talent

Lack of talent isn't our problem. #28 isn't our problem. I firmly believe that Bylsma is our problem. Remember when he kept forcing Gionta onto Jack's wing? I do. Fark Bylsma.

Everyone is all about trading 3guys and a pick for something... maybe its me but the shelves are looking thin and unless we want to pull up lame and only give ourselves 2-3 years of a really good team then you have to address that as well and cant trade away everything

- Havic3814

Cap strapped teams with upcoming contracts and a general "core" in place have to make tough decisions on players. The blackhawcks and Sharp come to mind.
Murray knows this, which is why he has been stockpiling picks.
A cap strapped team is going to want to completely clear player X's salary from the books, which is why said player would be shipped out for picks or prospects.
I dont spend enough time to figure out who those teams are, but they're out there every year and im sure Murray has his sights set on a few players.
We have plenty of picks and prospects to trade and i believe we're pretty up there in the number of professional contracts we have signed, so we cant keep all the picks and prospects we currently have.

Abdelkader & Helm play in Detroit's top6
Nyquist & Tatar on their 3rd line

(Most of the season... They do switch things up here n there)

He hasn't had meaningful minutes with Eichel in over 30 games, it stopped right around the midway point of the season. They were on a line together for the bulk of 14 whole games.

Abdelkader 17 goals 19 assists

Helm 8 goals 11 assist

don't compare the Wings to the Sabres and Helm is there due to injuries.

- SABRES 89

Why not?
You're the one who keeps saying u want us to be a playoff team?
Detroit makes it EVERY year

And Helm is NOT there due to injuries
He's there be they've been playing Nyquist & Tatar on the 3rd line most of the year so they can have BALANCE

and Girgs was on pace for 20 goals last year...
As a rookie

Not saying he HAS to be in the top6
But I'm ok with spreading out talent so we have 3 good lines instead of 2

3 good lines is Girgensons centering the 3rd line where he belongs

Corey Perry is on line 2 in Anaheim
Hossa has played 3rd line
Patrick Marleau is currently on the "3rd line"

Yet he was put on the 3rd line at times this year, when we presumably have less talent
- sbroads24

He's not a 3rd liner dude, that's the (frank)ing point.

Almost all good teams do this
In order to move guys down for balance u have to move a lesser talent up though
If that can be Girgs for us, then GREAT
If not...
That's ok too!

And.....?

If he was doing that, why should I trust anything he's doing now or will do in the future?
