Report: #NHL is working on implementing crossbar camera looking down, and camera along the bluelines in time for this year's postseason.

Took them long enough eh?

When will they just micro chip each puck and the goal lines? Technology has to be ready for that pretty soon here.

Then what the (frank) are scientists doing? Lazy bums.
Edit:They need to stop wasting time in preventing concussions. This matter more.

I shouldn't have to say this, but, this is a joke.

Apparently trying to do one of two things in regards to that

New alloy for protection
New electronic composites that can withstand the impact and still work.

NASA does it. The NHL should hire them.

But seriously that is what needs to happen. A microchip with a sensor on if it passed the line fully. I wonder how many glove saves that go into the net would actually be goals. I know it's a rare thing but very interesting to me.

That is three months old and Bettman isn't going to paint an ugly picture to the media.

I see your point...but I'm going to take direct quotes from the commissioners mouth on NHL.com over anything else. I just dont see the cap dropping. I also listened to him on hockey central stating they have systems in place to cover the Canadian dollar if it ever got bad...like it has.

... NASA does it for specific environments and equipments, that are either a much larger piece of equipment taking the force, or in a more stable environment with less impact.

Don't forget... they can't change the puck, this sensor has to be functional at near zero weight or change to the structure. Its not as simple as you think.

It may not be simple but we are talking about a multi million dollar league here. If they cant do it there is no hope for them. Not to mention that they wouldn't be the ones making it. Billion dollar companies would and theyd make a poop ton on them. I know its not easily done, but it is the future of sports. Remove the human error of a ref for something and the fans will be more satisfied with the product.

Gonna go out on a limb and say they havn't commissioned NASA, because they don't WANT the technology.

The ref's union would lose jobs if that puck censor was created. No more war room, no need for any real replay, its cut and dry. Oh, and then the NHL loses a LOT of TV ad revenue, because of no stoppage in play for reviews and such.

They don't want that good of help

Why would refs union care? Refs will still be needed. This will just make their job easier. Its not like the puck will stop the play for a penalty. If I were a ref I'd thank the inventor so I don't need to make tough calls and get hated or in trouble for them. I'm sure they'll still make terrible calls all the time, but not on goals anymore. The NHL wont have a choice after a while. The technology will be there and fans will rip into the league till they use it. I don't know when but it will happen.

So... if you were one the union heads, and you pushed for an improvement to technology that would almost completely eliminate the war room, and lose however many refs jobs that results in, you'd be all for it?

You are thinking logically, from a fan and coach perspective, but officiating unions are VERY strong in all sports, and this just won't happen.

When was the last time you saw a game go to commercials because of a review. Your thinking of the NFL. Anytime there is a review in the NHL, the broadcast stays with it until there is a resolution.

Yeah... not really, there is a short break sometimes, those stupid banners at the top and bottom of the screen. NHL will look at anything that shortens the games as a loss of money.

Shortening the game will have no impact on ad revenue. Hockey games always have 3 commercial breaks per period, and they are always at the same times. That will never change, unless they start adding another commercial break into each period.

If I were in a union that refused to let things evolve and get better for the majority of parties involved I'd leave the union. Or not be in a POS union like that to begin with. But maybe thats the conservation talking from inside me.

Thats really the opinion of someone not in a union man XD. If you're in such, its job security, so why permit changes that could lose jobs, one of those jobs possibly being yours?

I get your point though, and yes, I'd like the puck censor invented and implemented too, but the pushback against it has it many years away still.

Those bastards tweeting Fehr and Bennett were skating this morning...thought that meant they were in the lineup.

Status quo. Another year with a WBS scrub on Sid's line :'-(
edit: I like Wilson, he just doesnt belong on the top line

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Wilson is hardly a scrub. He has NHL speed and shot. He also has a lot more goals in his last 10 games than Hagelin does. Right now he is a better option for that line than Bennet or Fehr.

Iowa is a right to work state. No unions needed. We are decent to our workers without needing to be told to be.

If they want job security they should stop being bad at their job. Its worked for decades now, they should try it.

Apparently Schultz and Pouliot are third pairing. Kind of excited to see what happens.
