Impressive night all around, got to give extra kudos to Steve Mason.

Being off for as long as he was, you have to figure he wanted to see some rubber last night. But the Flyers really dominated from the get go and it was probably a more difficult task for Mase. But he was really sharp when he needed to be.

He wasn't really tested, but he did have to make a few difficult stops on scrambles and a few off turnovers and he was good.

As soon as Schultz got called for the double-minor, I thought well there goes the shutout. Combine Mason not seeing much work up to that point with his lack of playing time lately and poor PK save % and I figured it was a perfect recipe to lose the shutout. He made some nice saves on that kill. Now let's hope the momentum continues because they're sure gonna need it with this upcoming slate.

Yep, get both goalies going good. Even with the ups and downs Mason has had, they have been a strong point of the team.

Any chance you could post the epic, organization-decimating rant that you alluded to crafting in preparation for if they lost last night?

I'm sure it can just be slightly edited to fit their next loss, but still, let's just get it out there

Thanks bill. Holy Poop Deck, Gudas scores, and scores again. I'll drink to that...lol.
The team showed up for last nights game, but I wonder what they were doing against the Oilers? Dr. Horrible, or Dr. Hey, I Can Actually Play Some Hockey?
Good job Mason. Congrats on the shutout, and hard work.
Please Hexy don't turn us into a kinder gentler Habs team with small forwards. We need some more grit without sacrificing speed. Get someone who can go to the net with more frequency than a speedy Schenn. If we continue to stay outside the paint, then we will continue to make back up goalies look like MVP players; with the exception of last night. I miss John LeClair, and when he would do the dirty work of a forward.

Both have impressed me this season. I'm used to seeing goalies on teams like the Rags and Bruins over the years constantly putting up great numbers whether they're the starter or backup in large part because of their stacked defenses (thinking back more to the Thomas/Rask days for the Bruins with Chara in his prime). But I'm very impressed with the way Mason and Neuvirth have played most of this season behind our defense.

Edit: And that's not meant to take anything away from Lundqvist, Thomas, or Rask.

Mason, since joining the Flyers, has been a legit top 10 goalie. It's fantastic. The only worry I have about goal is injuries.

Our fearless captain will have them ready to play lol. 2 goals since February 4th, against 2 non-playoff teams Arizona & Columbus. Let's see if he shows up the next week against playoff teams. Gee & he was left off team Canada... Go figure

I love Mason and still feel like he's under-appreciated by most. I know Neuvirth has his own injury history, but having a solid backup/1B option has been a breath of fresh air. Emery was a good solider and locker room guy, but clearly his best days are behind him and Neuvirth has been a heck of an addition.

Travis Konecny in Windsor this Thursday! Assuming he remains healthy this week, I'm very excited to see the kid live.
