He should get a game here and there, but I just don't see him being a regular. Waste of a third.

Won't be a waste if another d-man goes down for any amount of time.

That's true. But we're gonna get Lovejoy back in a few weeks. A third is a lot to spend on an insurance plan for an insurance plan. We probably could have found a Bortuzzo/Engeland level player for a 5th or lower.

daley was sucha waste for us too. he played bad in chicago so how would we know he would be good here? we didn't but we played him to find out. shultz was bad with edmonton (pretty much anyone is there). so how do we know he is bad here? we don't and the only way to find out is to try him. nobody really KNOWS if he will be lightning in a bottle or just quicksand

PS yes I know we got rid of scuds for daley and that was why it was good

#Pens M-A Fleury was asked if he would ever knock off the net in frustration. "No, that's baby stuff" -SK

Fluery is right, that is Bush League. Lundqvist is the biggest crybaby in the NHL.

Since Pouliot and Cole had another nice game, do you even think about putting Schultz in the lineup? I don't.
- madmike71

Shultzy is right handed and Cole is not

Well Daley didn't cost us poop and was far less of a reclamation project. I thought he sucked, but he was coming off of a good production year and his "fancy stats" were actually kind of ok in Chicago.

Daley was a very pleasant surprise. Schultz could too, but its a crap shoot. And with our limited assets I don't see why we spent a third on it.

I see what you're saying. 3rd rounder doesn't bother me that much. I'm really curious to see how he fits. He's admitted he has a confidence issue now. This change of scenery on a winning attitude team could get that back. He has a great skill set.

Lol I loved that one Rags guy that called Hank's actions "Crosby-esque". Even when they have no room to talk, they still take pot shots.

I think the Schultz trade was always a gamble for next year. There should be no denying that he has all the skills that we are looking for in a dman; he can skate and move the puck. They'll get him in a few games down the stretch and see how he looks. If he looks good, they can tender him an offer of multiple years at his qualifying price, so for example a 3 year 4 mil contract (1.3M per). This would give us huge flexibility at the draft to deal one of Pouliot/Maatta if a big time move came up (Drouin?)

Embellished to try to earn a goalie interference call and when the refs didnt bite he trough a hissy fit and pushed the net over.

Schultz might end up being the steal of the year. He's been playing 20 minutes a night in all situations, does not matter how successful he was doing it either he has the experience. And as a right handed shot playing 3rd pairing minutes in a no stress atmosphere he might just be able to focus on hockey alone and he will surprise some people. If our 4th pairing is Lovejoy/ Cole that is much better than last year when we entered the playoffs. I like Shultz playing with Dumoulin and Daley playing with Pouliot. I think we will score a lot of goals and move a lot of pucks that way.

Lovejoy-Despres; Lovejoy

Rutherford literally said that he made that trade because he wanted a right handed shot on the blue line and we had too many lefties.

So I'm just gonna say it. We need to freaking relax. Won one game, killed Arizona, and had a good first period against the Caps. If this wasn't the Rags we'd be pointing out the need to wait and see if he string together three or four wins in a row before putting away the rally caps.

Gotta keep up this effort and focus before figuring out playoff stuff.

You know you won't see even a glimpse of him now that his team got their a$$es kicked big time and we will do the same ot them in the playoffs should they come up since their team is not so much better after the deadline, they still rely on Lunk to save them and when he's beaten it's,open season on their garbage team, always has been, just that Lunk has had our number for a few years now.

This is not just any win though, we got Lundqvist out of our heads, and we got in Lundqvists head. The next time we play the Rags we will be all over that cry baby.

2 Rules questions on Queen Henrik's little meltdown...shouldn't that have been a penalty shot considering play was still going and the Pens possessed the puck coming into the Rags zone? Pretty sure if a Dman intentionally upends the net during play it's a penalty shot.
Second, being that play was stopped because he was "supposedly" injured, doesn't he have to leave the ice and be replaced for at least the ensuing faceoff?

I guess the difference is Shultzy cost us nothing at all to acquire and is upside makes any cost of acquisition worth it. Shultz is so many things even right now that Lovejoy is not. He's only 25, has a tremendous pedigree, has played in all situations and scenarios including ppqb. Yes he's a little broken from playing for a bad team under high expectations but playing for a good team under no expectations should be a quick remedy for that. I would never trade Despres or any dman we have spent years developing for either Shultz or Lovejoy, but a third round pick and them retaining salary, it's all wins for us.
