Early this season fans here verbally brutalized and ridiculed Rob Scuderi and incessantly demanded his departure. Well, you eventually got it, in return receiving your speedy puck mover. Scuderi went to Chicago and was hardly given a chance before being sent to the minors. That proved your point here, right? Washed up, career over. Well guess what. Scuderi was traded to the Kings and in his first two games there played 19 minutes flawlessly, assisting on a crucial goal in one of them. He was used on all penalty kills as well as his regular shift. The opponents have yet to score while he's on the ice. Tonight he's being moved up to the top pair with Drew Doughty. Could you have been wrong? I think Scuderi rates the description of "tough" stay-at-homer. All teams need guys like that.

Yeah good for you and all but Scuderi will be playing for your AHL affiliate by March 15th, the shine tends to rub off of him really fast. I have no doubt Doughty can carry most slunks no problem but he will get burned out pretty quick carrying old Scudmuffin around. Maybe you should wait 5-6 games before you start bragging??

Scuderi might actually fit the Kings system. Though the kings blogger says their defenseman have to be able to move the puck to their center and make some plays. Still system wise he's a much better fit for them. We need guys that complement our best players - Malkin, Letang, Crosby. That means speed and ability to finish off their playmaking.

I wish the team did have a couple rugged guys, but we blew our load basically on all the deals last year up to the Kessel trade. Everything in that time frame was pretty much a failure. Kessel may turn it around as he's fast and a playmaker and makes sense in our system as a guy who can put up offense if Crosby/Malkin hit a road bump. If we had skipped the Peron and winnik deals we would have had the assets to get Ladd. But right now we need some time to build up our asset base in order to make bolt-on rental deals.

FWIW even though a guy like Plotnikov was cheap he was still costly. We could have offered vet minimum to Stempniak who I was surprised could only get a PTO. Always been a good depth guy. Making those deals in the summer prevents you from shipping out your seconds for depth.
