Stamkos, ror, eichel, risto is a lot like Chicago's kane, toews, hossa, keith...

If Stamkos wants to sign here I 100% think it's the best and fastest move for us to become cup contenders. Obviously add the top 5 draft pick and bring in a top 4dman and we are looking reallllllll good

Why do u say that?

Stamkos has a NTC
So he's only gonna accept a trade to where he wants to sign
Now IF that's the Sabres...
Why would July 1st make a difference?
The only thing it might do is cost us more $$$

I'm sure his agent already knows who's interested
And when the season is over, he'll let Stamkos know the options & he'll choose where he wants to go play
Whether or not his rights get traded to that team seems a bit arbitrary to me

- jdfitz77

I believe Buffalo is in the running. What I don't believe is that unless it is the only one talking with him, it has the ability to close the deal. Someone else will offer him something better. Cash won't be a problem for any team serious about his services.

We can then use Kane,Ennis, Gus, for D there won't be any room in the top six for them

Not arguing about the ceiling...he's terrific. The next 3-4 years would be great...and they better win multiple cups.
Take a look at his stats, they have gone down...I just see warning signs and project that decline out over 4 years from now. Just go in eyes wide open and realize going all in has An incredibly high risk associated with it.
You hate Moulson's contract now...imagine in 4 - 5 years being saddled with a guy who has $12m tied around you neck and he ain't producing like that contract demands anymore.

- IonSabres

I think u can make a case that his production has gone down bc he's playing with pretty average linemates
Presumably, he'd get paired here with Eichel
Obviously we can't project what he'll do going forward, but it seems reasonable to think he'll perform well with all the talent we'll have up front

The only way they end up signing Stamkos is acquiring his rights before July 1st. If they get into a battle in the open market, they will lose.

You hit the nail on the head. If three weeks ago, I toldyou ,we can trade matthew tkachuk for steven stamkos who would do it. They will do what it takes to get him

That would be one hell of a 3rd line though!

All of them have had "down" seasons, so I doubt their value is enough to get what we want unless we're adding some serious pieces with them

I think a deal built with Fasching could get us that defenseman though
He's our most valuable piece IMO

Mmm no, stamkos would be a UFA 6 days after the draft. Keep taking to your sources, you're getting bad intel.

I think the only teams that could/would outbid us are the Leafs & possibly the Flyers
I'd be shocked if he went to the Leafs
Philly I'd be nervous about
But it's not like he's gonna get offers from the Caps or Hawks or LA...

What makes u think any team that could offer him $$ is more desirable than us?

I'll say this..if we acquire stamkos' rights and sign him, but give up our top 5 pick to do it..don't know if I'm that into that. If he really wants to be here then we shouldn't have to do that. Giving up a top 5 pick for a pending ufa seems useless.

You get stamkos and then use that top 5 pick for a stud defensmen

I'd say I agree,
Within reason

I doubt we'd have to give up Tkachuck just to talk to him anyways though
That's kinda crazy if Tampa thinks that

Exactly. i dont get the logic either.....if you know he's going to sign here, theres no point in giving anything up for him, because you know he's going to sign here.
Why would you give up anything if you have no inside information?

Mental midget , l e t m e. Spell it out for you. They won't make the trade unless they know he will sign. Got it,are you sure, wait pause, are you sure you understand
- Buffalo39

There's no need for name calling.

365 and I sometimes vehemently disagree with each other, but it's always respectful, and never resorts to name calling.

The only way they could "know" they could sign him prior to any trade would be tampering, because that would mean talking to a player/agent already under contract with another team.

Murray refused to even say Drouin, or Pirri today.

Why? We're probably one of 4-6 teams with the cash to give him what he wants. all he has to do is evaluate the talent and the philosophy of the other bidding teams.
Who else out there has the cash and is in a way better spot than the sabres?

He probably already knows where he is going, regardless of who owns his rights come the summer.

It is a SEEDY business. The Sabres firmly believe they can sign him. But if day one anyone can talk to him,it drives that price up and then you have to contend with better teams, better places and we mental midget here

Unless there would be a condition on it..if we sign him they get our first..if we don't they get are 3rd. Still giving up a top pick for a ufa baffles me but I would forget all about that when I see stamkos hold up a sabres jersey during a press conference

Have you seen some of 365 and my posts? We've gone at it over 5 or 6 pages of posts, and somehow we manage to not call each other names. Look at the other night during the Kings game about McGinn. It went on for about an hour of back and forth.

Don't sink to BHH's level. It's nice in here without him. There can actually be discourse now.

I don't understand why?

Stamkos will pick where he wants to go

Only way he'd waive his NTC is if it's for the team he wants to go to

I don't follow that logic

Stamkos will already know what teams are interested in him & who will offer big bucks before July 1st

If he decides it's Philly,
Us trading for his rights prob does nothing to change that

If he decides it's the Sabres...
Waiting a few days most likely doesn't change his mind either

Unless we get some kind of info that says he's undecided & we want the extra time to "woo" him...
Bring him to Buffalo, show him around, etc

But if that's the case...
I can't see us give anything too significant up

We'll just have to see how this all plays out
I think the only any of us know for sure is that we'll be in the mix
