BS we have half a roster of wasted space players Murray could dump and we also have McGinn who could've fetched us a 2nd round pick..
- bluengold12

We hope Mcginn would bring a 2nd. We tend over value our players in our own minds. If making move thinking will involve package of players. Not worrying he will move to team not being discussed. Just a thought

Buffalo bas been offering Jamie McGinn around at a third-round pick price to a few teams. Could change but that's likely landing spot.

Take a 3rd and run. Just don't give him a big contract
- sbroads24

Screw that. I'd rather trade him for new glasses for Tim Murray than a 3rd round pick who will take 3 years in juniors then live a long and uneventful career in Rochester come up for five games due to injury and get 1 assist.

At this point I'm of the notion to just keep the guy. The fact that he'd get the same return not better than a guy who was a healthy scratch this year in Weber is downright insulting

A player on our top line only worth a 3rd.

It's not about the third rounder, it's about not overpaying a 1 way 3rd liner.

Idk, they way people were saying it around here, a 2nd was as good as done. I was skeptical he would get us a 2nd.

Calgary should have traded Hudler in the offseason when he was at peak value.

People still have a hard time understanding.

Gionta at 3.45 (or whatever his contract is for)
Moulson at 5
And
McGinn at 4.

That would be a lot of wasted cap next year.

True, but they probably expected to be challenging for a playoff spot this year.

Listen I'd rather keep him and lose him for nothing than trade him for a 3rd round pick. It's insulting. At least get a (frank)ing prospect for him. He doesn't even need to be that good! someones 3rd round pick from 2014 for all I care! Just someone further along than a 3rd round pick from probably 2017

Yep. How about this one. Chicago's entire bottom 6 makes less than matt moulson on the cap.

He is a 3rd liner forced by lack of organizational talent to play on 2nd line. His production this year is tied to his pp time and line mates. To get a 2nd you'll need to send additional pick.

It would also be bad business to do so and probably more insulting than trading McGinn to a place where he has a chance to win.

Get rid of the other bums then! I'd rather have McGinn on this team he's better than both of those slow uninspiring bums put together! I don't care what you have to do if you ice a line up with Gionta, Moulson, Foligno and Larsson next year and don't bring in a top 6 forward and top 4 LHD so help me I'll go mad....

And the fact that he's projecting to be an 18 goal scorer and the best is a 3rd rounder. (frank) that.

Almost half his goals are on the PP, which a contender won't put him on. The other half is probably Eichel.

The other 2 aren't going anywhere. So mcginn is, and I'm fine with that.

Actually, it's prob better for us to get future picks
Look at all the young guys we've already got in our lineup
We have 18 forward prospects with top9 potential already in our system
Obviously not all of these guys will work out,
But how many openings will we even have over the next few years?

Picks down the road work just fine for the timeline we are on

Well none if Murray thinks it's okay to ice a team full of career 3rd liners on bad contracts
