So this is that home stand where they win a bunch of games, keep playoff hopes alive, only to fall short by 2 points. Thus losing ground and falling further down the draft order. And effectively losing on 2 fronts.

Yeah but at least the lottery is for first 3 picks so you have at least a better shot of moving up.

Just a question out of curiosity.

Is Schenn a part of this rebuild or if you got an offer like WPG got do you move him?

I am not sure either way so I was wondering what people thought.

- J35Bacher

I'd move Schenn if the offer is really good, but I wouldn't be looking to move him. I could say the same about a lot of players on the team though.

What did they get? A prospect, a 1st and a conditional?

I would say Bardreau and Goulbourne and even Martel to an extent play just as gritty. But they also bring more skill and speed.

I like White. But If I can get something for him I am pretty sure I can replace him with one of the LHV guys.

- J35Bacher

I think faceoffs are huge right now, especially on the 4th line. I'm not saying White is the only player in the league who can take us to the promised land because he's a good faceoff man, I just think we need to look for guys who are specialists in specific areas (Shootout, PK, faceoffs etc).

So why can't Del Zotto, MacDonald, Schultz, Gudas step into that role.

We seem to just leave Del Zotto out of leadership things but I thyink he has earned his way here. Also he has been through the highs of a 1st round rookie star and lows of being traded and pretty much discarded.

I think he showed this year by almost reinventing his game a little that he is a leader on the back end.

MDZ leadership in action.

Excuse me if I'm sounding arrogant but how could anyone possibly know back when Patrick Sharp was here that Sharp would become what he was to the Hawks and not know that Brayden Schenn would become really good before age 24?

The only player I've seen counted out more by fans was an aging Simon Gagne prior to his trade to Tampa. If Simon Gagne was healthy, that guy could contribute.

- SuperSchennBros

That's why I said, "it's likely" as opposed to "it's apparent" or "it's obvious." Sure, he could go on to be a 30G/65P guy, or be the next Wayne Gretzky. But from my standpoint, I find it unlikely.

What Winnipeg got isn't enough for an RFA like Schenn. Ladd is a rental Chicago will almost certainly be unable to sign.

Yeah.

I actually thought they would get more. But everyone seems to think WPG made out.

It really depends on how good Dano ends up being.

White's great at faceoffs but unfortunately he doesn't have the overall game to play center. If you could take the best parts of PEB and White and put them together you'd have a great 4th liner.

Maatta just got six years at $4.083m.

I think Ghost will get more.

- Feanor

Damn...that's a huge extension. I guess they see him as the heir apparent to Letang.

We have a bunch of guys that play PK in LHV. Also I think since 3v3 was instituted the shootout specialist isn't as needed. If 3v3 didn't come around then I might agree for a specialist maybe but I just don't like giving a roster spot to a specialist who doesn't bring enough other things.

I think we need to look for guys who arent a liability most of the time they are on the ice. White isnt the biggest culprit on the team but we have to improve somewhere or should we just accept being a below average team (yes its better recently)

That's my issue with White. Yeah, he's really good at the dot and he plays that "sandpaper" style. But, to me, you need to be able to do more than that to justify a roster spot. It's great to win a faceoff, but you need to be able to turn that into something positive, and I don't think White is a good enough player to do so. If you disagree, that's fine, but I don't think being good at faceoffs justifies an NHL roster spot.

You've been in search for a fight for the last 24 hours now. So, as most people around here do, why don't you put words in my mouth and tell me how I view Ryan White.

I doubt it. If his contract is up this year itll be a bridge deal for two years around 2.5 mil. If he expires after next year and has similair numbers and production then yes he gets a bigger salary. $0 games is hardly enough time to give him a large contract. Like him and all but he needs to show he can do it all season for a huge increase.

I'd trade any player, Giroux, Ghost, and Provorov included, where we got the best player in the deal (age and salary taken into account).

Please by all means correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't White take the faceoffs and then switch to wing to ve replaced by Bellemare?

He's a better player than Olli Maata is right now. Maata had a horrendous second year (granted, he had health issues) and was terrible the first half of this year. He's turned it around, but right now, Ghost is a better player both with and without the puck, although he's more prone to aggressive mistakes than Maata.

Sometimes, but Bellemare has taken 438 draws compared to only 253 for White.

I think the only other thing worth noting is that Maatta had a terrific first year. I will happily pay Ghost more if he continues the trend that he is on rather than run into the luck and trouble that Maatta has

I agree.

It's not as easy to hide players anymore. The good teams roll 4 lines. The Ducks roll 4 solid good lines. I don't mind sandpaper but it has to have skill. Pat Maroon can play with an edge but he also can put the puck in the net. He can play on the top line if needed without the line missing a beat.
