Sure, I can't debate this because I don't know. The issue for me is, do we have a young player as gritty/tough as White? White might be our second strongest faceoff man. Can any of the kids replace this?
- SuperSchennBros

I would say Bardreau and Goulbourne and even Martel to an extent play just as gritty. But they also bring more skill and speed.

I like White. But If I can get something for him I am pretty sure I can replace him with one of the LHV guys.

I'm not really worried about how young the D core will be. It's nice to have that vet presence but it's not like Streit is out on the ice with all five guys. The D coach is what matters most in that regard. I think Murphy has been doing an okay job. I would absolutely love in they could get Kimmo in some sort of coaching role. I think he would be really good to have around our two way guys coming up.

And like others have stated ID you're dead set on vet D you can pretty easily sign one on the open market ie Schultz. Of you have the chance to cash in on Streit now you take it IMO.

- hereticpride

Yes, agree. We can find another guy via trade or free agency (like when Buffalo brought in Gorges/sp?). If we can get a good return on streit now, I'd certainly understand it. But let's try to find a solid vet leader to bring in later as well to further help with our D transition.

Just because a player is a vet doesn't mean he's capable of doing that job well. And I think, no matter the coach, a player like that is always needed.
- orangekrush2010

They have team leaders like Giroux, Simmonds, Voracek which all seem to have good relationships with the coach. You also have some young vets now with Couturier and Schenn and Raffl.

If I am only keeping Streit due to his bridging between coach and younger players. Is that enough to keep a 5.5 cap hit?

I tend to agree. There's always going to be turnover with the bottom six. White is a guy I would move if a decent offer comes along. Laughton, Cousins and PEB are the bottom six guys I want to build around.

You need that type of presence on the back end as well. G can't really help lead a D core specifically , he can help lead the entire team.

And his salary will be coming off the books soon enough where it won't hinder much. I don't think his salary is preventing us from doing anything we might be looking to do now.

Excuse me if I'm sounding arrogant but how could anyone possibly know back when Patrick Sharp was here that Sharp would become what he was to the Hawks and not know that Brayden Schenn would become really good before age 24?

The only player I've seen counted out more by fans was an aging Simon Gagne prior to his trade to Tampa. If Simon Gagne was healthy, that guy could contribute.

- SuperSchennBros

I think Simon was counted out (due to the concussions mostly) until he got "counted back in" in the 2010 playoff run. The general reaction when he left was

I don't know much B. Schenn will continue to develop from where he is now. However, I will say that if he's, say, a 22-25 goal, 45-50 point player who plays an underappreciated role on PP1, that's a pretty good player in today's NHL. The days of the 30-goal, 60-65 point second-line type are gone (at least til such a time as scoring leaguewide increases again).

I think white is very tradable. I would take a mid rd pick for him. Good 4th line player who can win faceoffs, which in the playoffs is a big plus, and play the PP a little.

I could see WAS having interest. He is the exact type of player they need and they don't have much space. 3rd from WAS, you heard it here first.

we should definitely play the games and I think it is hilarious their fans are basically beginning to save their spots for the parade.

I know the team knows they havent won it yet...but its laughable that the fans are so confident right now. With no Kimmo to root for I will happily watch them lose this year

So why can't Del Zotto, MacDonald, Schultz, Gudas step into that role.

We seem to just leave Del Zotto out of leadership things but I thyink he has earned his way here. Also he has been through the highs of a 1st round rookie star and lows of being traded and pretty much discarded.

I think he showed this year by almost reinventing his game a little that he is a leader on the back end.

I agree 100% of your view of B.Schenn, Bill. I felt Schenn was being missed used until he was placed on a line where he was able to play a possession game.

As for Simon Gagne, I remember those 2010 debates/arguments on these boards like yesterday. I think you nailed the mindset of the fans again at that time.

I actually think both Chicago and Washington don't make the Stanley Cup.

I have a Anaheim vs Detriot cup final. Not sure why I think Detroit. Just think they come through in playoffs this year.

So this is that home stand where they win a bunch of games, keep playoff hopes alive, only to fall short by 2 points. Thus losing ground and falling further down the draft order. And effectively losing on 2 fronts.

Just a question out of curiosity.

Is Schenn a part of this rebuild or if you got an offer like WPG got do you move him?

I am not sure either way so I was wondering what people thought.
