Foligno and McGinn are basically the same player. except one of them gets to play with eichel.

Supports Gerbe's theory, he's replaceable for far less money.

I don't mind what mcginn would bring next year, it's 4 years down the road where he is not needed

1) He won't be here next year
2) I think you're giving him too much credit for the success of the unit.

I am worried about next year and beyond. I couldn't care less if was a PK superstar right now.

If Legwand doesn't get moved, I'd rather Schaller stay in Rochester and help them push for a playoff spot. If they make the playoffs, he could benefit from getting some of that type of experience down there before making the jump next season.

I have no issue with Schaller. I've really liked what I've seen from him the last few years. But I wouldn't completely discredit how Legwand has played here this year either. I think he's played his role well. Nothing more, nothing less. You make it sound like I'm ready to crown him team MVP or something, which is totally not the case.

I wouldn't put it past Murray to trade Folingo and resign McGinn for more money, solely based on the fact that Murray didn't draft Foligno, and did trade for McGinn.

It's the ego

so the fact that the hawks are +13 in special team goals means nothing

got it, special teams are over-rated

- homiedclown

Yes, they are over rated. Didn't you ask the question as to why we could be top 10 in PP and PK but still be a bad team?

I would rather have someone playing for 1 million then 4 million on the bottom line it's a waste and good teams let those players go

I let 4 years from now me worry about that part. As long as we don't seriously handcuff ourselves I'm cool with keeping him. I'm also cool with trading him. If Foligno can keep playing like he has and get some consistent goal scoring and TM says the plan is to have him take McGinn's spot then sure I'm on board.

Just don't give him a NTC if we keep him. That's where I feel you hurt yourself down the road.

I think some players will be asked to lift their NTC before the deadline or bought out this summer (Moulson, Gionta) if we are serious about improving. We are far too slow as a team overall. We need some foot speed besides Eichel and Kane

On another note, I hope we make an effort to land Hall or Eberle.

When the top guys on your team are each making a million right now you can afford it. Down the road we worry about salary cap, right now it's not a huge factor to me

I wouldn't say they are over rated its really nice to cash in on those opportunites when you get them... but i would say since you play 80% of the game 5v5 its more important.

I mind because he won't be bringing. The majority of his offensive production has come from being next to eichel or on a top powerplay unit he has no business being on. You're going to pay him 3.5 mil for that production and then never see it again.

I don't disagree with any of that. I'd rather keep all of the kids in Rochester for the year. I don't dislike Legwand or anything like that, nor do I think that you think he is MVP. My original point is that I am surprised that people think he would return more than what Weber did.

I mean if he brought something defensively i'd understand. McGinn was a throw in not a player he targeted. Im still hoping he's gone by 3pm monday.

I think Gionta stays unless we get that one guy with the 7 letter name. Don't play him as much as we have been imo. Moulson is the interesting one. Are you going to pay a guy to not play here again? He's not young, has term left, and costs a good amount of money. Add to the fact that he isn't scoring and I don't think it matters if he waives his NTC, he's our problem and we're stuck with him.

I remember reading post trade that it was stipulated that Murray take McGinn's salary.

I can't provide my source, as he is an assistant to someone in the organization. But I have always relied on him for the inside scoop. Take it as you may, but it is a legitimate source.

I'd say Legwand alone could get a 4th or 5th. I think he's included as a piece of a deal if he's dealt.

What do we do with Moulson? Leave him on the 4th line and play him 12min per game for $5m per year? Buy him out and be done with it. He is literally the slowest player in the NHL

so the fact we sucked on the pp with the drop pass to myers had no effect on why we lost that series to the flyers when we went 0-19 on the pp and allowed the flyers to get 6 pp goals

His cap hit is going to be the issue in moving him. It's possible they retain some salary like they did Weber, but they can only retain up to half, so he's still not exactly cheap help. That's going to keep what they can get in return pretty low. But, if Murray can swing something for the 2017 draft like he did for Weber, teams may be willing to go a bit higher. Just depends. I could see maybe a 2017 4th at the highest, or possibly a 2016 6th.
