Shinkaruk definitely doesn't have the speed Granlund has.

The Flames need to get tougher as a team. That includes our top 6 as well. Shinkaruk has one fight to his name and it wasn't pretty. Take a look if you fancy:

Just wondering where this slow, soft, defensively questionable player that is good at backdoor goals falls into the future plan of the team.

Really I think it came down to Van must have liked Granlund. After loosing Sven this gives us another decent prospect at LW. Happy that BT is making moves that could improve the team

As far as team toughness goes that definitely needs to be addressed. Future Hall of Famer Hunter Smith is coming. They could have the 2 Hunters on a line with Bennett and call the line the Head Hunters......at least I am sure that's what they would be known as in Cowboy's!

Who said he's slow

Scouts during his draft year, my eyes when I watched a Utica game last year, my eyes when I caught the odd Tigers game when they played the Hitmen.

On top of that, he ranked near the bottom of the fastest skater comp at the AHL All Star Game. Derek Grant beat him by like 4 seconds haha.

Granlund plays well on the wing too. His numbers this year are a result of inconsistent utilization.

Umm I heard BTL say today that they tried Granlund on wing. Brad's words were that Markus wasn't comfortable at that position.

That's nice. I used my eyes and evaluated how he looked in the many games he was put on wing. Sure it's not his natural position. He wasn't a liability and found ways to generate the odd chance with the limited role and mostly defensive zone starts that he was given.

Were you not aware he played a fair amount of wing for us this year? Do you have an opinion of your own from the hockey you watched or are you just gonna stick with BT?

Easy fella... Neither player has shown or proven sh!t. To say there's a clear cut winner in this trade is asinine.

A 1st for each would be great. I think low end we need to expect at least a Glencross return of a 2nd and 3rd. If you are wondering re: players or prospects, we need top 6 RW with size and certainly a starting G with some term.

Granlund was better as a 20YO AHLer than Shinkaruk is now. Pretty fair deal

Not sure what all the fuss is about ...couple ahl stars traded ...one a center and one a winger ...looks like we brought home another local kid ...on another note mason Raymond is also a local boy who is doing well in the ahl

It could go either way. Some scouts have shinkaruk pegged as top six. Others say he won't crack the big show. We have enough young centers. We don't need granlund. We need top six wingers. This trade is.good for us. It's a gamble but it's a risk we should be taking with our current depth at center. We can afford to take this gamble.

He scores goals? Outside of Johnny, Money, and Bennett we don't really have any bonafide goal scorers. This is a bit of a gamble, but honestly unless we were to trade Backland he (Granlund) just doesn't fit with this team.

Like I said; slow, soft, goal scorer. A lot of scouts question whether his style of offense translates to the NHL. His 200 foot game isn't close to being NHL ready.

There wasn't enough room for Granlund, Jooris and Grant (who happens to have two more goals in 15 less games played this year than Shinkaruk) so its not the worst to trade him. Not huge on taking back a slow, one dimensional powerplay specialist that would get manhandled by Sbisa.

We need to get bigger and tougher. We need to be able to compete with teams like the Kings and Ducks. We traded an NHL player for a one dimensional, three year project with AHL size and speed.

totally agree.

Granlund's a year older and flames didn't like what they were seeing from him this year. They get a shot at a do-over, that's why I'll give the edge to CGY, but it's pretty close.

To Calgary: 2016 1st (top 3 protected), Wiercioch
To Ottawa: Kris Russell, Jiri Hudler (get to work on contracts with them)

Kris Russell - 7 years @4.25M (front loaded)
Jiri Hudler - 3 years @5M (6/5/4)

thoughts?

come back to the nucks thread there are way to many idiots in there
- mauryballstein

Well u left the thread so all good now.

This deal is a minor deal that can only set up another packaged trade.
Shink is soft n won't be a top 6 winger n useless in the bottom 6.
Either way both teams just shuffling assets n nothin to sweat about.

Canucks blog went nuclear over this. Overblown fans as usual thinking either player will actually be a key cog when both r only pawns at best prolly.

Wow. I would not have pegged either guy as netting quite that much, though maybe a second and prospect for Russell is ballpark.

Not sure if it is hometown inflation or if that's how it will play out...

I don't see the blues giving up a first on Hudler, but could be completely off.

Would you take only a second for Hudler and only a second for Russell?

would a third with solid not great forward prospect and a D prospect be something you'd take for either one?

You might not be far off on the value, contracts could be close too. Wiercioch is a bit of a mystery, but could be worth a look on our bottom pairing (if we can move some other dead weight out). I don't really like the top 3 protection though since we are giving away our 2 most valuable rentals, it would suck to not see any return for 2 years for 2 important members of our team...

I'd rather keep Huds and trade Russ, probably better off if we just trade both though. I forsure don't want us to resign Russ though, we have too many $$$ tied up in 5-7 dmen as is. The rest of your assessment is pretty accurate (RW instead of LW though). This teams on the right path just need a few more pieces.
