I really like what I've seen so far from him, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. He's played in extremely limited action for the most part. Most players get a trade/move bump. It's not easy to score ~20 goals and ~40 points.
- Wetbandit1

And if McGinn does that it would be the first time in his career he has.
I think we need to hope that Bailey or Ennis can step in and easily replace that production

Matt Beleskey got $3.8 for 5 years. He was also playing higher than where he should've been. I'm also not saying McGinn can't be replaced. I just think he's worth more than a bag of pucks like a lot on here think he is. You also can't have a team where the average age is 24 and hope to go anywhere.
- Wetbandit1

I wouldn't hate resigning him, I would just hate having McGinn and Molson taking up 9 million in cap on your bottom 6 in a year or so

I seriously don't get why we "need" McGinn. He's a decent 3rd liner. You don't need to pay 4 mil for those. If he wants 2.5-3 for a few years sure. I have no doubts that Justin Bailey can step in and play his role just fine
- sbroads24

I agree, I think he will be looking for more than 3, which is why I am fine trading him for whatever. However, I just like to tamper the expectations. I really don't see any way we get a 1st for him. I honestly won't be surprised if all we get is a 3rd.

His cap hit this year is $2.95 with a salary of $3. He'll be asking for a raise considering he's having a careerish year. He should equal or top his goal total of 19. I don't think he'll get to 38 points. That would mean 11 points in 22 games, and I feel that's a bit much to hope for from him, but I could see 4 or 5 goals and maybe 3 or 4 assists. His career year also happened in his last full season. Last year he only played 19 games because of his back. Like I said. I'd be willing to give him about a 10% raise(which incidentally is a qualifying offer for 90% of RFA) maybe a little more up to $3.5. But that would be as far as I'd be willing to go. He can make the argument he's never played better, and he'd be right.

Edit: He actually scored 20 goals in 11-12 12 with the Sharks and 8 with the Avs. So he had 20 goals, 19 goals, an injured season and on pace for ~20 this year. That's pretty damn good. Someone is definitely going to pay him at least $3.5.

He actually scored 20 in 11-12. Plus the "~" means "about". And he had 19 goals in 12-13. So he's scored "about" 20 goals twice, plus this year if he just continues with the pace he's established over 60 games. Which makes three times in his past 3 full seasons. He had 11 in 47 in 12-13 with comes out to ~20(actually 19.19148936170218)

Anyone else catch the Red Wings Rangers game? Interesting no goal. I forgot who, but a Rangers player was skating near the crease, Howard stuck his stick out and tripped the Ranger, as Ranger was falling his skate kicked Howard in the head which stunned him, meanwhile the puck is in the corner and is shot into the net just as Howard is getting back into the play. No goal, no penalty. If you can find video of it great. I'm too tired to do it now, I just want to go to bed. I can't believe Howard didn't get a tripping penalty. The no goal I can understand, even though it was unintentional, you still can't kick a goalie in the head. Both actions are clear as day in the replay. I think that's the first time I've ever seen that exact sequence of events. Just plain weird.

I think it is a given that Moulson gets bought out.
If McGinn wants much more than he is asking for now I think you sell high. When we are good he is a 3rd line player. While his play around the net is exceptional (after all, that's where all of his goals come frome) I hadn't been shot in the arse with him elsewhere.

Ideally we package him with a 3 and hope to get a 2.

I think McGinn is worth a 2d on his own.

At this point, Unless we're talking about acquiring top 5 can't miss picks, I'm not that interested in shipping out talent (or picks) for more picks. I'd prefer known commodities.

Even if we had a good shot at signing him back this summer like we did Moulson?

I don't think you're going to get much of a known commodity as you would be getting back either a pick, a kid in the minors/junior or a 4th liner in the NHL.

I think the only way he comes back is if he doesn't like what is offered on the market and lowers his price.

I'm still not sure I care about cost. It's term I worry about. If he is dead set on a contract greater than 3 years, he should be traded yesterday.

A great trade for the Leafs. They trade 2 scrubs and essentially buy two 2's because they take back Torrez's salary.

It's funny that you should say that - I remember when we were on the search for a 1C and he was a possibility. I was thinking the other day that it is a good thing we didn't get him because - while he is a warrior - he has been washed up for 5 years now.

But their fans told us last year that tanking was wrong! I hope they still feel the same way....
