So rumor has it Ladd for a 1st and a prospect. It's a quote from Garth, but Garth quoted some TSN guy, so yeah. McGinn should be able to get a 1st then. Ladd only has 2 more goals and 6 more points than McGinn. Both are -10 with 9 PPP. Ladd has 32 more SOG than McGinn.
- Wetbandit1

That report says WPG has that offer for Ladd and hasn't accepted it. But I'm not sure McGinn pulls a first, anyway. I hope he does.

I'm going to be that guy but how does Weber deserve a Stanley Cup? Maybe I'm just a jackass but I would get mad if any of our players win the Stanley Cup the players we have now .. I'm talking vets ROR yes but we're not going to trade God

I'm not saying any of them "deserve" to win it, no one "deserves" to win it. just that it would be cool to see them win it that's all.

But can you really compare ladd to him when Ladd has been great all his career.. that's like me saying John Tavares is worth Ryan O'Reilly
- gerbe75pts

I didn't say they were equal. It's Ladd for a 1st + a prospect. I'm saying if that's the case then McGinn should be worth a 1st. Also I'd hardly say Ladd has been great. He's never put up more than 62 points he's only scored 20+ goals in 4 of 12 seasons although this year looks good to make it 5 of 12. While good, that's not great. Thomas Vanek for example has never failed to score at least 20. Ladd has a .6 ppg average over his career, again those are good numbers, just not great ones. We're talking about pure rentals here as well, which is something to consider.

that's basically what I'm trying to say that one season doesn't make a player.. just because Ryan O'Reilly is having a better season does not make him better than John Tavares

Ladd is a lot better than McGinn, a lot better. There is a reason why one will command at least 6 million per and the other wont.

Remember when miller said the middle tier hockey players would be the ones who get squeezed? I thought he was right. It hasnt worked out that way.

I seriously don't get why we "need" McGinn. He's a decent 3rd liner. You don't need to pay 4 mil for those. If he wants 2.5-3 for a few years sure. I have no doubts that Justin Bailey can step in and play his role just fine

I agree. But the team that trades for either guy likely won't re-sign them because they will cost way too much money. So, like I said before, in a pure rental capacity both players are having about the same season for roughly even teams, and if one guy can get a 1st+ the other should get a 1st. Especially considering one is 3 years younger than the other and has played in 300 less games, I'll take the younger guy for 40ish games. And if anyone signs a 30 year old Ladd who has played a lot of heavy hockey to any more than a 3 year contract, well, I have 2 words for you, Matt Moulson. When players have down years at 30+, it's not a down year, it's the new normal.

Ladd has obviously had a better career than McGinn. Obviously. But right now, and for the rest of the year and playoffs with everything else being equal, and it is for this year, I'd take the younger cheaper guy for less.

You really think Justin Bailey will just "step in" and score at least 14 goals next season? Which McGinn has with 22 games left and will add probably another 4 or 5, maybe more since ROR is out for a while, so he should get some more time near the top of the lineup, so say 19 for a full season if he continues his current pace, which over 60 games is pretty much settled. He's not worth $4M, so if that's his quote. Auf wiedersehen. But I think he might be had for about $3.25-$3.5M which is right where he should be given his production.

Players right around 26, 27, 28 points that are not RFA, or on ELC. Also not counting D-men. Drew Stafford $4.3 cap hit 1 year remaining after this year. Chris Kunitz $3.85 1 year. Marian Hossa $5.25 3,000 years. Matt Beleskey $3.8 5 years. Nick Foligno $5.5 5 years remaining. Pominville $5.6 3 years. Valteri Filppula $5.0 2 years. Desharnais $3.5 1 year.

Hell. I'm starting to think McGinn might actually be worth $4.0M per. I still don't like him for that, but you know he'll use all those guys as comparables to leverage more money.

Interesting. That's pretty good for a bottom feeding Buffalo team. I call bullpoop on the Islanders numbers. Unless all those people sit in the upper deck which aren't visible on TV. No (frank)ing way do they sell 84.9% of capacity at home. How does a team sell 116.2% on average? How can the number be higher than 100%? I never understood that.

Yes, I think he can. Especially if he is playing with Jack Eichel

His numbers are inflated by the fact that he's receiving top 6 minutes and power play time that he wouldn't otherwise receive on a contending team. If anything the absence of oreilly may hurt him rather than help (at least in 5 on 5)

McGinn is shooting almost 3% above his career average. He's a 12-15 goal scorer on an average season. He can be replaced. Take the top 60 draft pick and move on if he doesn't want something that represents 3rd line money

I really like what I've seen so far from him, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. He's played in extremely limited action for the most part. Most players get a trade/move bump. It's not easy to score ~20 goals and ~40 points.

Matt Beleskey got $3.8 for 5 years. He was also playing higher than where he should've been. I'm also not saying McGinn can't be replaced. I just think he's worth more than a bag of pucks like a lot on here think he is. You also can't have a team where the average age is 24 and hope to go anywhere.
