Ghost has been a joy to watch. Hopefully the other prospects can emulate him.

Bruce Garrioch from the Toronto Sun newspaper is saying Hextall will be active in the next week looking to trade Schultz, Streit, and Read.
Sell sell sell ... Please!

I think each of those guys is moveable. There are teams that would happily take Streit, MDV, Schultz and Read. It's just a matter of maximizing the asset. With the exception of MDV, all of those guys are signed through next season. Would it be better to wait for the summer or next year's trade deadline to make the move? Hexy said he had other deals on the table last year, but didn't make them. He said it was because he wanted to give them a chance to win, but it was really because he knew he could get more in the summer. He was right in regards to Grossmann.
- PhillySportsGuy

Keeping these guys also bought him time in developing Hagg, Morin and later Provorov. Hexy could have moved some of those guys last trade deadline, but would have used assets to replace them to allow the prospects time to develop and not be elevated to fill spots in the NHL.

Honestly, I can't remember a time when the organization had so many legitimate prospects who could play in the NHL within three years.

Wait.... Wtf are we going to do with all this cap space if two of three are moved? Or even just one? This does not compute

Agreed. There's a market for all 4 of those guys. If Pitt can trade Scuderi and get a guy like Trevor Daley back, anything is possible.

The two guys I'd be trying my hardest to trade would be Streit and Read. If you can move those two, that's almost 9 million in freed cap next year. That's of course before accounting for any salary we'd be taking back in these deals. The Flyers can't retain money on any deals until the off-season either, which makes moving these two that much more difficult.

I've been on the trade Matt Read train for well over a calendar year now. I think he is probably the easiest to move and should be the first to go.

Neither can I. I've been a die-hard hockey fan for about a decade now, and I'm only 24. So maybe before my time, but this is without question the best Flyers prospect pool I've seen in my 10 years as a hardcore fan that follows the sport like a religion.

Thanks Bill. Ghost continues to impress. I hope that the other kids are taking note, and have a good camp next year. I hope that Hexy can work his magic, and shed some of the dead weight in order to clear some space for them. Gagner, and Cuz are playing well, too.
I just don't see why the correctable things are not being corrected; poor line changes, not closing the gaps, taking dumb penalties, poor passing, etc.. And, if a forward passes one more time for Gudas to take the shot, I will shoot one of them. Please, forwards take the shot yourself, before letting Gudas take a shot; remember he doesn't shoot like Ghost...duh.
Bill can you discuss the Flyers PK. It seems that we have a very passive box, that doesn't challenge the other team's shooters. To me, it's like playing a prevent defense during football; you are just kind of hanging back, and are waiting for the ball to come to you. I figured that since our PK is not the best in the league, that anything should be tried to improve the stats. In addition, our centers need to bump up their faceoff skills, and quit depending on G to take all the faceoffs.
Next game please.....

So i probably missed it, but i assume no discople for PunK Subban? Richards was right about that dude. That looked like a clear case of a s head shot. He deliberately delived the blow wigh his arm/elbow. Not even a review?

Strange game? Yes, but also very entertaining. I think the fans got their moneys worth last night. Good for Ghost. It isn't even the points, sure they are great. It is his swagger, the kid has got the 'it' factor that the Flyers need. Pronger, Jagr and Danny in the POs, Simmer to a much lesser extent all had swagger and its great to see a young player with it, because it was badly needed. Swag on!

It's going to be an interesting week leading up to the TDL. I know nobody here is thinking (in my Jim Mora voice ) playoffs, but I just don't see Hextall being top aggressive here. 1 or 2 players tops is all I see being moved.

Of course the Coburn and Timonen moves shocked me with the return and being able to trade VLC was clutch,so what do I know?

So it's not fun when one of the best players on a team you root for takes a shot to the head, huh.

New to the this site, really enjoy reading your blog Bill as well as the comments from the community. It will be so nice to talk real hockey for a change.

The sports talk stations in the Philly area hardly ever do and when they do it's all topical crap. And worse, they make it seem as though they're doing you a favor for even discussing it in the first place. Finding this blog has been such a relief!

Bill, any relation to Big Al, (he was the best)? Or is it just a coincidence?

Just curious as to what teams would easily take on such players. Fill in the blanks:

i guess you missed all the concussions he had, not the least of which was his last play as a flyer when he was hit by scott stevens.

you, along with the entire ranger fanbase seem unable to recognize that simmonds was crosschecked, PREEMPTIVELY mind you, IN THE HEAD.

meanwhile, giroux was just at the net trying to score a goal.

have a nice day, troll.

John Mcdonough is not coming out of the suite to play anytime soon. He saw his cup victory in Philly 6 years ago.

can someone please explain to me why there has been no league review of P.K. Suban's head pick of Giroux...its bad enuff there wasn't a penalty called even tho it was an obvious head hit...but the all powerful NHL hasn't even looked at it..Giroux was hurt obviously he didn't play last night with the all elusive " upper body injury". So in the world were the NHL is trying to eliminate head shots and targeting why hasn't this play come under review... maybe they only review non super star players ....but right now the league looks like a bunch of amateurs and casts a questionable light on their sincerity of protecting its players....

It's nice to see the scorers scoring even without our two top centers. Our defense though, my god. I'm sorry to those who are going to blow up on me but Gudas was as bad as they come last night.

yes he was.

Schenn is playing his way into a nice contract. Do you give him the same deal as Couturier?
