Jets blog. I assume this guy is dialed in with Chicago sports since he is verified adn all..

Sean C. Reynolds

@snseanreynolds

Plenty of chatter about a trade for Andrew Ladd here in Chicago.

Interesting
Hawks get Ladd & they're really setting themselves up for another Cup
Their 3rd line would turn from "ok" to pretty darn good really quick
They can bring Bickell back up for the playoffs too. Was smart to send him down when they did to get the Cap relief they can use now

I am right now just realizing that our Rochester team next year will be beyond f'n stacked with kids...

Defense:
Borgen
Bryce Martin
Florentino (maybe Jr)

Forwards:
Fasching (probably AHL over NHL)
Stephens (maybe)
Estephan
Cornel
Karabacek
Hurley (doubtful)
Baptiste
Bailey
Possler (maybe)
Olofsson (maybe)

This is why so many people shouldn't have had their panties in a jumble over the trades made last year. That isn't the best group in the world but there are some promising names on that list. And once again, there are only so many contracts to hand out.

This is what I hope the Sabres can turn into.

Draft well to keep those bottom 2 lines full and trade for players with expiring contracts at the deadline to make a run year in year out.

More hockey than anything else

It's also the arguing that goes on about it though
Mostly, it's ppl being "homers" to prop up their guy (philly fan) or just trying to discredit Simone for whatever reason (McDavid, Panarin) to make their guy look better

All for a useless award that doesn't mean sh!t
Look at past winners
Very rarely is the best rookie from that year end up being the best player
Most just end up being "ok"

It's too small a sample size to judge anything realistic off of it
I just think it's lame
And the nicking over it drives me nuts

Absolutely
I posted what I want the Sabres to do from here out earlier, but I'll repost in a sec

From here on out, I'd like to see the Sabres...

1) trade McGinn, Legwand, Weber, C.Johnson, Franson & Moulson (if possible) for whatever picks we can get
* more ammo for trades

2) draft in the top5, preferably top3
* I'm looking for a forward here, but if Chychrun is there at 5 I'm very ok with him being the guy we take

3) trade Fasching + (picks, or prospects like Karabacek, Carrier, or even both) for a good young defenseman (Fowler, Trouba, etc)
* even if we get Chychrun
* yeah, I'd rather trade Fasching than Girgensons or Ennis

4) sign Stamkos
* I'm not too worried about the cap, I think we can make it work just fine

5) make the playoffs next year, maybe pull an upset or 2?
* with added scoring, defense & Lehner continuing to play well, I think we def make it

All of that seems at least "fairly" plausible IMO

I'm most excited about the forwards group if Estephan and Cornel are there as pivots with Baptiste, Bailey, Fasching, Karabacek, Possler, and Olofsson most likely.
- JVince11

I like oloffson & possler quite a bit
Great picks that could eventually fill in on our 3rd line

Wanna hear an actual Interesting Fact of the Day...

Eichel averages more ice time than ANY rookie forward in the NHL this year. He has the most PP points of any forward rookie in the NHL this year. He is 2 goals off the tie for leading rookie NHL goal scorer. The most game winning goals of any rookie. And.. from what I can tell... the most Penalty Kill time of any rookie forward as well.

He is the ONLY TWO WAY forward in this entire rookie class. They all live/die off of scoring goals.

- JVince11

Only just noticed this but this isn't true at all and the 2nd part has for the most part been true of Eichel (though that includes assists as well). Having a handful of penalty kill minutes does not make you a two way forward, especially if you're not good at it.

Eichel still struggles 5v5 in his own end and when his line is out they concede a poop ton of shot attempts against and give up quite a few high danger scoring chances. This ok given his line mates and that he is in fact a rookie, but he is not the only two way forward in his rookie class and more importantly isn't a two way forward, yet.

Wanna hear an actual interesting fact? The best two way forward rookie in this class is (probably) Sam Reinhart.

We'll still see another "the media overhypes *insert rookie here* so much!!!" tomorrow, I'm sure.

Which is funny because i think one of the major flaws of the NHL is that they don't market/hype their star players enough.

They should be hyping the poop out of the March 1st game. I only found out about it through the radio and Im a fan of one of the two teams
