Like I said I'm no morals police, I don't care what the guy does. But I think the bigger issue is the reoccurring theme of him putting himself in bad spots
- sbroads24

Not making it back in time for practice aside, he wasn't out at a strip club or anything. He took his little sister to the NBA All-Star game.

Again, I'm flattered that you would compare my situation to a professional athletes, but not sure it is a valid one.

I guess I'm once again being too hard on Kane, I mean it's not like he was traded from his previous team because of off the ice issues or anything

- sbroads24

Why? I would easily argue it's more expected from men who have grown up as a professional athlete than someone who works for a living. Their life has for the most part been handed to them from genetics. Make more money than they will ever need, and basically havent worked a day in their lives.

Sorry working out, practicing and playing in a sporting event isn't working.

I would expect this more from them than from you, yet because he is a professional athlete you're disappointed that he overslept?

We also don't pay ROR $10M or more which is what someone will be paying Stamkos. You're completely missing my point....if skunk, Risto and Eichel continue to develop,
there's no way they all get paid when that comes due, if we put a $10M salary on the books now.

I think we've learned the hard way, that there's no easy solutions and we can't act like a kid in the candy store buying whatever(whoever) we want. If we want to be a contender for the long term, I just think we have to be smarter and a Stamkos type guy who's been in his prime few a number of years now, is a few years ahead of fitting our model.

- nikel

No, I'm not
Stamkos is only 26. He won't be declining by the end of the deal like u claim
And why can't we got all these guys?
The Hawks are paying
Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Keith, Crawford & Hossa

That's 6 guys
Even if the Cap doesn't go up, which it will...
Stamkos, Eichel, O'Reilly, Reinhart & Ristolainen makes 5 for us

You're way off base here

We are ready to be a playoff team NEXT YEAR with Stamkos
And will be a contender for 6 of the 7 years he'd be here, and beyond
(Assuming these kids develop into what we think they will)

Guys like Stamkos aren't available often
You get them when u can, u don't wait around

Speaking of, props to him for being at practice today because he was rocked at Snooty Fox last night lol
- Gmcc24

I have seen him pretty hammered at Encore. That part of it doesn't bother me at all.

Really? Kane broke a team rule. If Reinhart is bombed in public he is breaking the law.

the only crazy thing about that is, he's not even 21 yet.
I would just think in this day and age of camera phones, the int-nets, as a professional athlete you would want to lay low a little. I don't think I know anyone who hadn't gotten Sh!t faced before their 21st birthday, but they also weren't representing a team, league, etc.
And of course, im jealous because at age 20, I couldn't get drunk, wake up the next morning and be in the top 4 or 5 in NHL rookie scoring.
I think at that point in my life, I was carrying cases of genny out to old peoples cars at Consumers.

True. Forgot about that. If he gets suspended for it, that's where it effects his life though

It's happened to a lot of players like Ovechkin, Johnny hockey Sean Monahan , Tyler Seguin I really don't think it's a big deal
- gerbe75pts

Yeah, Calgary just suspended Monahan, Gaudreau, and someone else I can't remember. Where was the outrage there?

I could care less regarding this Kane incident because a. it's small potatoes and more importantly b. I don't believe he will be with the team passed the end of his current contract.

You kind of just proved my point....If you're looking at Chicago's model, they have 4 big contract guys (namely Kane and Toews, to a lesser extent, Seabrook and Crawford as well), not 6 as you said. Hossa and Keith are just over $5M so I don't consider them in that category (though i understand it helps your argument).

Let's say back in 2007/08 season, Kane and Toews' first season, that Chicago also signed a maxxed out contract (similar to us signing a Stamkos type guy).....there's no way they they'd have all 4 of those current stars on the team...it would be impossible because they have to give up good players every season just to keep the guys they currently have. It probably also means they wouldn't have won the cup last season (and maybe even in 2013), without those guys, cause they overspent prematurely, which is, after all, my point.

Chicago did it correctly, they developed the talent they drafted as the core, and THEN added complementary pieces like Hossa

Hossa & Keith are both paid top $$$
Their cap hits are just less bc they signed 12 or 13 year deals I believe
Now I get that we can't do that,
So it'll make it tougher for us to manage our Cap
But... Like I said...
Bridge deals for our guys that will (eventually) make the big $$$
That's how we make it work
Even though I don't think we'd have to get rid of Ennis & Kane (equal over 10mil in cap)...
IF we had to choose,
You'd take Stamkos all day long
He's the 2nd best goal scorer in the NHL since he's entered the league
And he's not gonna decline before he's 33
(At least it's not likely)

U think if the Hawks signed Hossa a year or 2 before they did they wouldn't have won their Cups?
Heck,
U could argue they might have won SOONER just as easily

If we were the Leafs, I'd agree with you
They're still a ways away... Which is why Stamkos won't go there

Do u think we are NOT a playoff team NEXT year with Stamkos?
I think so
Which makes him got the timeline perfectly

It's not like we'd be going after a rental
We'd get him for 7 years

Irony:

People at work commenting on a message board while being paid, using company broadband, and in spite of company policy complaining that a young man violated a team (company) rule while maintaining their own moral superiority.

Irony.

You're trying to claim something that simply is not true, just because it helps your argument. Hossa and Keith are NOT hitting the cap as a top $$$ salary would now, $5M is no longer top $. The Hawks do not have 6 guys hitting the cap with high end salaries. Who cares how long they're signed or actual pay, cap is all that matters.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Stamkos, just not if it means ripping the core apart 5 yrs from now.

What I'm hearing from you is, he's available so sign him....and 3 yrs from now let's pray we can sign all our RfAs....its risky.
