He benefited from being on a team with the likes of Toews, Kane, and Hossa, Seabrook, and Keith. He was along for the ride

I beg to differ....look at Versteeg's stats away from the hawks. Pretty good. As are Ladd and Buffs.

There were many others "along for the ride" on those cup runs. Always will be but depth goals are HUGE bonuses come playoff time because the top 2 lines will get shut down, especially on the road when matchups are less favorable.

His turn overs at both blue lines make me want to kill everyone

Exactly..Versteeg had a role in both cup runs, but he wasn't essential.

Bickell made his money during the playoffs of 2013. Since he has been with the big club he has always floated.
- BGKarras

hawks could have had Bickell for 1/3 of the cost in 2013 if they would have extended him then......Bowman declined and Bickell went on a tear and backed the Hawks into a corner. hawks had no suitable NHL ready replacements for him.

So the current bind the Hawks are in with Bickell is solely on Bowman. And yes, he was hurt in 2013 with the same knee issue he has had ever since so they were well aware of that.

Bickell is the Robert Horry or Jim Lehyritz of hockey.

What are everyone's thoughts regarding the Gustafsson situation?

If he's permanently in Q's doghouse, it sure seems as though the Hawks need another defender.

Svedberg is NOT a top 4 defender...and I doubt he ever will be.

- ArlingtonRob

Svedberg has shown progress and him being recalled was because of that. I thought he played well against the Ducks.

If the Hawks chose to bring Versteeg back, yet again...I wouldn't be upset.

I'd just shrug...

There are more important holes to fill.

I don't disagree there, but just amazing to me how quickly people forget how good he was with Richards and Kane until he broke his hand against the Capitals, and how good he was again with Vermette and Teuvo in the playoffs.

he's a risk, makes stupid decisions, is a horrible rapper, but he's a great versatile option to have on a team. Can play bottom 6 as easily as top 6 and not be uncomfortable. Lots of other guys have a MJAOR problem trying to do that. Fish out of water..........

That does it. What the heck happened to Chris Block? He didn't kick the bucket and not tell anyone did he? Anyone?

Remember TT or GUS for Drouin was a non starter for most of us? How do we feel today? our left wing Pool is horrid. Des, Mash and Pan are the only ones on the roster.

I don't share your opinion...but I have not written Svedberg off either.

But the thought of Svedberg in the playoffs, in any role...is unsettling.

100% agreed. It didn't make huge waves in November of 2013 when came here.

I just hope they can land a 1LW. That fixes a lot of holes as Shaw slides down, and so on........

Right about the Bickell situation , but I think because he was a pending UFA that he played balls to the wall to get paid and that worked out very well for the Hawks then

Drouin to the Hawks was always I pipe dream IMO...

Gus (FA signed out of the SHL) certainly wasn't a deal breaker...

Still feel ok about that .

Gus coulld be a very good D man with the Hawks .

I get TT is lagging a lot but Im feeling like TT is a FROSH on the Varsity and will be better every year .

Steve, as a lifelong Laker's fan, Big Shot Rob did it more than once and in more than one season. Bickell had his moment in one playoff run. Big Shot Rob bailed the Shaq-Kobe teams out more than once.

But your analogy is in the right ballpark.

Per Brian Hedger, Gustafsson will sit a second straight game. Q wants him to be more active offensively, like he was earlier.
