I just think there is something to be said for bridge contracts. Kids go from 950K to 5-6 million a year. its crazy. it makes it hard to keep your own talent which is a shame

I feel the CBA strips young players of almost all of their leverage until UFA. If a team really wants to hang on to their kids, they really shouldn't have a problem doing so, unless they haven't budgeted at all in advance. And the kind of kids that command those types of raises are generally already fully effective/developed, and worth that level of investment: Kane, Toews, Doughty, etc. Most other players coming off of ELCs will only be getting modest raises since they're still works in progress.
