Quotes not working,
Why pay McGinn more was a question posed earlier in the posts...
"More" doesn't mean $5m as has been referenced by a lot of posters who don't want to pay MCGinn.
"More", based on his '15-'16 salary of $3.0m, and Avg Cap hit of $2.95m could mean $3.5 - $3.75m which would be a 20%+- raise...well, well below the $5m so often thrown around.
He has a history of producing around 20g per season...this will be his 3rd in 5 years he is on track for 19/20. Last season his production was down due to a serious back injury that has since healed. That is pretty good production for 3rd liners.
He is a leader and plays the game in the dirty areas...something that the young guys like Bailey, Baptiste, Fashing and others can learn from.
He slides up into top 6 roles to fill injury driven vacancies for periods of time without a serious drop off...perfect insurance policy.

And he blows away the likes of Foligno, Deslauries, Schaller and others who are also referenced by posters as potential replacements for him. Those guys aren't in his class...maybe for a game or three...not consistently.

I agree with not paying him $5m....but $3.5 - $3.75 ... Sign him. More than that...trade him.

It has been about 9 days since Murray explained that he will wait a bit before deciding if he will be a seller or buyer at the trade deadline.
Further, we are 15 days from the TDL.

So, what do we think Murray does now?

Like MHP stated in response to 39's statement he heard a number of players like Foligno, Larson and others will be gone...seems like a potential fire sale is brewing in Pegulaville.

Personally, I think this is a critical juncture for Murray to get rid of some guys that set us up for the future. I am excited to see what happens.

If Murray is really looking at moving out players other than pending UFA's (Larsson, Franson, Foligno) then it kinda tells me he's trying to clear space for next year so he can make a run at Stamkos. Bylsma doesn't like carrying 8 D so you could see Franson and Weber moved at the TD. It looks like a fire sale to me.

Love the idea of moving these players. Larsson I still have hope for but I'm already with him departing if he's part of a package the returns a new core piece. Foligno I've had enough of. The way he's playing now is what we've always wanted out of him, but very rarely got. Sell him now while his value his high.

I like the logic.
If he sets himself up to grab Stamkos, who loves to plat center...that tells me someone else of significance is going as well...from the center ranks.

Reinhart? I know he's playing LW, for now as Bylsma apparently wants to move him to C eventually. I think as close to no chance in hell as possible, but...never say never.
Eichel? No chance in hell.
ROR? No chance in hell.
Girgensons? Was played at LW with Eichel recently and looks complimentary to him...but is that long term? He is a candidate to bring in a player in a position of need...Defense?
Larson? Yup, playing well defensively, but need secondary scoring he isn't providing...he therefore becomes a commodity in my mind.
Legwand? Yup, no question he gets dumped for anything. Schaller is his replacement on the 4th line.

Then throw in the other names, McGinn an Foligno, and possibly Johnson.
Wow, there is a lot to work with

We had a decent amount of players at last years deadline too though. It's a matter of do other teams like ours more than they like other sellers. I'm afraid it will be just like last year for us, we'll be waiting and waiting with most of our guys, then near 3 o'clock Murray will beg for anything in return just to move them.

Girgensons & Pysyk will both be in the lineup today, Coach Bylsma says; Lehner starts in goal. #COLvsBUF

I love the total hypocrisy in the Buffalo media

Mark Pysyk needs to be in the lineup because of his underlying numbers

But Rasmus Ristolainen is going to be a "great" defensemen despite having bad underlying numbers.

So do they matter or not? Because if they do where are the criticisms of Ristolainen? And if they dont, then sitting Pysyk really isn't a big deal
