When I played my whole intent of hitting somebody was not for me to end up in the hospital.
- jmdodgeser4

When I played, as a defenseman, my intent was to stop the player's momentum and for my team to gain possession of the puck. A novel approach, I know.

No, the hockeybuzz way is to make a statement, and use any/all means necessary to stand your ground and/or change the point of the debate until you find something that sticks.

I think the correct wording is "They're's Philly officiating."

Intriguing thought. It'd be Neuvirth if they offered anything unless we got blown away on an offer for Mason (which I doubt). I think they go talk to Anaheim to be honest though.

Why would they want a career backup who is currently playing over his head?

To me it wasn't his speed or his commitment to the hit that was the problem, but rather where he hit him. As soon as the kid put his head down Gudas needed to react and he didn't. Yes, yes, we all know to keep your head up in the neutral zone but tbh I think that's crap. The primary point of contact was the head and that has to go. Gudas was not moving so fast he had no time to react - he could have tried to move to hit him in the shoulder. I had no problem with the call by the refs and I'm sure the league will review it. I have no idea what they'll do as every time I try and predict them I get it wrong. Who knew you could cross check someone in the back of the head with no disciplinary action?
- FlyersGrace

Kid should never put his head down in the middle of the ice. Someone should lock him in a room and play Stevens highlight reels for him.

The gentleman in the pink shirt is Claude Giroux. It was the day he got his signing bonus. He went out and had an incident.

Didn't you get the memo? Homer was officiating last night. It's why the Flyers got all the calls.

I'm all for hard hits, but that hit last night was the definition of "predatory." There were about 5 minutes left, they had a huge lead, and the guy was in a prone position. He could have easily bumped him off the puck (or gone for the puck) but he chose to try to blow him up, and did. Reminded me a lot of Rinaldo charging that defenseman a few years back when they were up 4-0 on Buffalo. Totally unnecessary at that point of the ga,e/
- jmatchett383

On that hit Rinaldo leaped up and caught nothing but head. It's not really that similar to the Gudas hit which was a full body check without elevation.

Need to beat the Devils. That's a 4 point game. A win against the rangers is just as important to the Flyers, even though they won't catch the rangers. They need to win that to stay alive AND for pride. You know Simmonds is getting challenged the first time he hits the ice.
- funmaster18

Realistically, the Flyers are unlikely to move up enough in the standings to earn a playoff spot this season, not with so many other teams to jump over, Coots out, and a talent-thin roster. But I really want them to crush the Rangers. At least so they can say they won the season series. Hank has been playing lights-out for a while. It's time for him to go into a funk, and I hope it starts tonight against the Kings and bottoms out on Sunday.

I wasn't comparing the legality of the hits, more the necessity of trying to "blow a guy up" when the game is almost over and you're up by 4 goals.

I remember in November being really down on the projected scoring output of the two stars, so it's nice to see them back on the first page here. And ahead of the future $11 million man Stamkos.

I don't know a highlight of Stevens head hunting played for every player isn't such a bad idea... Those are exactly the kind of hits the NHL is trying to remove.
