I KNOW I am in the vast minority here, but I didnt think the Gudas hit was all that bad.. Seriously. Could he have let up? Sure, but this is hockey. I hate that people talk about predatory hits. Isnt every hit predatory? Should you go into a hit thinking, Im gonna take it easy on this guy? Or, this guy is already being harassed by another player so Ill just go by him?

He stepped up and caught a smaller player with his head down. He had the puck, he was fighting to maintain possession, and he got blasted. Was it a tough hit? Sure, but I hate hearing people say oh its a 5-1 game.. Play the game or dont. Hit or dont. Idk..

I have a serious feeling that in a decade there wont be any hitting. There wont be any fighting. Thats not a fun league to me.

I personally saw nothing wrong with it. As you said, kid had his head down + with the game speed, Gudas was already committed to the hit before Foligno even had his head down. only thing that is arguable imo is the point of the game since it was over and late in 3rd that hit would bother me if I were a Sabres San. But tough crap lol

But after watching a few times, the guy was tied up and it was a bit unnecessary for a few minutes left in a 5-1 game. I agree that guys should be keeping their head up, but it's also a time and place situation.
- funmaster18

I think the guy had the puck when Gudas made the decision to level him. By the time the puck was away from the player, he probably said, ah (frank) it, I've already committed to making this hit.

I agree though, at that time of the game, up 5-1, it was a bit unnecessary. Just take your 2 pts and go.

I agree. Gudas was already committed to the hit. He saw a player tied up being pushed in a direction and Gudas's eyes lit up to make the big hit. He did it not realizing the player would put his head down and fish for the puck. It was too late then and Gudas made the hit. Was it nessacary? no. Was it cheap? no. Its a hockey hit. Gudas could have let up. What happens if he did let up the player gets possession and goes around gudas and scores on a two on one. Then we will all blast him for not hitting. I love flyers fans!!!lol

4 points out of the last wildcard spot. Not impossible, but there is a big logjam there. Flyers really need to go on a big winning streak here to have a shot.

Next 3 games, 2 being against NJ, might be make or break.

Yah I believe Glass has said he will. However, this does nothing for the flyers. Losing Simmonds for 5 min at least and rangers losing Glass for 5 minutes is a horrible trade off. Simmonds should ignore him. If say a top line player wants to go with Simmonds Id be more ok with that trade off. But not with Glass.

There is no way Simmonds backs down from that fight though

I said this last night. Pretty much all of it. Looking back, time and place tells me he could have let up a bit there, but I don't want big hits taking out and allow forwards to cruise through the neutral zone without a worry. I also mentioned that I don't want this to be the NFL were defensive backs can't breathe on a receiver without getting a flag.

Great scouting by the way. Foligno can play. Nice cheapshot artist player in Gudas by the way. He should have been penalized instead of Foligno for sticking his leg out! What a bunch of homer officiating last night in Philly. Was totally ridiculous.

To me it wasn't his speed or his commitment to the hit that was the problem, but rather where he hit him. As soon as the kid put his head down Gudas needed to react and he didn't. Yes, yes, we all know to keep your head up in the neutral zone but tbh I think that's crap. The primary point of contact was the head and that has to go. Gudas was not moving so fast he had no time to react - he could have tried to move to hit him in the shoulder. I had no problem with the call by the refs and I'm sure the league will review it. I have no idea what they'll do as every time I try and predict them I get it wrong. Who knew you could cross check someone in the back of the head with no disciplinary action?

Im not saying he will Im saying he should. He is more important on the ice then off. If glass needs a dancing partner go see white. Simmonds should not have to answer for anything unless a skill forward wants to go with him.

I have to disagree here. You're playing hockey, you're cruising through the neutral zone, you need to be aware that someone is going to try and hit you. It's like being a driver and not needing to be aware of what other drivers on the road are doing.

I agree, but at the same time, if he doesn't just get it over with, the entire game could get out of hand.

I remember in November being really down on the projected scoring output of the two stars, so it's nice to see them back on the first page here. And ahead of the future $11 million man Stamkos.

Yeah no chance. I'd love to just put White out their to fight for him but Simmonds handles his owe business. If only he wasn't a 20 goal scored....I say just drop the gloves on the first face off and get it over with. If they keep going at him unnecessarily, then it's open season on those cry babies. I hear Rosehill has been itching to get an NHL game this season....

LOL, I know. He should be more upset about the poor goaltending his team got last night. It's as if they pulled a guy off the streets after a dek hockey game and said, you wanna play?

The onus falls on the hitter and hittee . Both are equally responsible. The one putting himself in a bad position and the hitter not hitting someone when hes in a bad position with plenty of time to stop. Ie boarding.. If your against the glass facing it and you get slammed into the glass. the onus is on the hitter. IF your coming down the board and right as your going to get hit you turn and face the glass and get plastered the onus is on the hittee.

and here I was assuming he would pitch a shutout being that he's a back up goaltender that's hardly played this year
