What's the talk in 'Peg about Trouba's contract situation? Is he really asking for $7mil?
- nanook82

I think his agent started off asking for a fortune but in the end it will be closer to what his draft class is getting. Columbus just signed Murray to a bridge deal, Seth Jones, dumba and trouba all have to be signed. I expect Chevy to wait and see what those guys get but the Murray deal hurts the trouba camp.

So probably in the range of Klefbom and D. Hamilton type money

If I had to bet I say he gets a two year bridge like Schultz got a couple years back.

No to Trouba for RNH. If he wants Byfuglien money, he can go fist himself. He is not a 1st pairing defender yet. He might be someday but he isn't currently. Petan can (frank) right off. I'd rather have Lemieux. Burmistrov is meh.
- Ihatebrianburke

Of course 7 mil is too much right now.

But he's a top 4 at absolute worst on our team today and a solid chance he's our best inside a year.

He can skate, play both ways, has size and is mean.
He'd be great for us.

I'd sign him 4-5 long term now.
If we bridge'd him, he's gonna get paid big in a couple years. Bridge deals are incredibly risky. Ins my ways more so than paying up now.

Just ask mtl

I know he has a touch of the downs, but why the hell was he sitting on a screen cap of the standings in December just to post it now?

Beats me. What I do know is that he is by far the dumbest twat on HockeyBuzz, if not the world.

Fukin rights

It's almost unbelievable to me how inept Bergevin was on that.
Were you really totally unaware that he was the real deal and was gonna hit your test out of the park? This isn't even a hindsight argument really. It's a recognize what's right in front of you argument instead of playing hardball with some silly prove it notion.

It's funny cause had he signed him to 5 mil long term. Say 6 years. (Which I heard was entirely plausible from pks demands.
he actually wouldn't have "overpayed" subban for even 1 year as pk dominated in both bridge years.
But even Forgetting that for a second, bergy saved anywhere from 3-4 mil over 2 years.
And is now paying an extra 4 per over the final 4.

You lost 12 mil in cap space Bergevin. Good thinkin

Totally different animal

And we still payed the guy 4 mil.

Subban worth a mil more long term a few years back?? Without a doubt

Well if Nuge is worth 6 how is Trouba not worth more than that to the Oilers?

What do oil fans think of trouba for RNH? I'm a jets fan and I find it interesting but would be scared with sheif and RNH a little as both get hurt but upside could be great. I'm not adding anything on our end in my opinion. I also think if you guys win the draft lottery maybe trouba plus petan or burmistrov or josh Morrisey and our first! Thoughts?
- Ross77

Sounds good to me, but Id suggest you guys add a little. Id throw in a 2nd or 3rd to get a Petan back.

So should we have paid Klef $7mil?

These 21 yr old punks that think they're worth 5-6-or even 7 mil is ridiculous, and without much success mind you.
I believe this was one of the many reasons for the lockout.

Not paying Trouba for his offence. Is he a leader? I try to watch Jets games (cause TSN3 works in my region) but can't stand their announcers.

I don't think there's any doubt he was more successful in his initial campaigns than klefbom was. So by that metric, he deserves substantially more than the 4+ klefbom got.
the guy looked like he was s sure fire superstar at 19 in this league. And got better his second year. The only reason we're even debating is the entire jets team backwards step this year.

Anyway, I'd happily pay him 4.5 long term today.
Potentially even 5.
As far as offence, I think two way guys are exactly what we should covet. Of course we need to dominate in our own end better, but we need to be able to move the puck and contribute from the backend.

If Chia is even thinking about trading RNH for Trouba, it's gonna start with Burmistrov and Trouba coming back (Cap reasons and depth reasons).

Trouba is going to be a great, physical, defender in the long run, but he is more known for being a two-way defender who can bring a good chunk of offense, however, his statistics suggest otherwise and he seems to be having a down year, not to mention with the Byfuglien signing, signing Trouba might be more difficult, therefore we have the advantage here (They still have to sign Ladd and Schiefle as well).

Only reason I thought that Burmistrov would be involved is because I think he would be a great addition on our third line, especially since it seems like Lander is just not going to be our longterm solution for depth. Burmistrov has seemed like he can play well enough to give some good offensive depth, plus he is Russian (Being optimistic here), therefore Yakupov might be able to create some sparks (Not those kind of sparks) and potentially increase his trade value.

I think Winnipeg and Edmonton have the assets needed to make the right trade for each team (Winnipeg has too many good defenders and Edmonton has too many good forwards), and after every single day that passes by, that thought only becomes more concrete.
