I've always thought this myself. But if its for a future top4 or 1c (such as in a package for stamkos) I think you do it

I believe the article is very accurate. He wants to make moves but likely won't dump UFAs for picks and he certainly won't aquire older players as well. A trade for somebody like Nicushkin would potentially make sense

I honestly dont see where the stamkos $ would even come from at this point. Sure Vrbatta would free 5M. Hamius is 4.5 but suspect he is resigned to lower amount....

Moving miller to habs for a pick or a D man makes sense this way.

Not sure what the habs cap space is though. Doubt they could also handle another player like burrows cap wise

I believe that's called 'natural selection'.

I heard Ian MacIntire talking on the 1040 last night for about 5 minutes.

He had some interesting points. He doesn't believe GMs will be doing Derek Roy's for second trades anymore. GMs realize the value of ELCs that need to contribute to building a roster , so they will hold onto draft picks.

He doesn't believe Vrbata wants to be moved. His wife is due any week , he does not want to uproot his family. IM believes Vrbata will exercise his NTC and provide only a list , then it is up to JB to try and find a suitor from the list.

In other words don't expect a lot of change in the next few weeks. Benning said the same message a week ago.
