Ummm Marty St Louis wanted out and only would go to one team...how'd that turn out for Yzerman and the Bolts?

Rattie and a 1st isn't gonna happen but Yzerman isn't gonna "settle" just to trade him.

- uf1910

Drouin loses value by the day. Unlike Marty, nobody is looking for him to improve their chances this year. He will just sit on the shelf depreciating in value until Yzerman let's him go. Remember what Ottawa gave up for Turris?

Multiple teams "interested" breeds a higher price. Sure teams aren't desperate in terms of him helping them now which unless he is included in something bigger points more to a draft trade. If he sits the rest of the year I can't agree he loses value b/c he also loses this year against his ELC meaning a team at the draft can trade for him and give him a year to "prove it" before RFA payday arrives.

As for Turris yes I remember what they gave up. A 2nd rounder and Rundblad who they had acquired for a 1st round pick a year or 2 before from StL who also spent a 1st round pick to draft him. To suggest that was "nothing" is absurd. Only now in hindsight with Rundblad in Europe does the return look bad but at the time Rundblad had solid "value" and the 2nd rder as well

pressure to win to keep his job?

that pressure makes gm's do dumb things.

see murray, bryan

unfortunately Murray's job is safer than the teachers' pensions

that said, I like murray and he's a decent GM.... decent moves = decent results

I think Dion is good....as long as he can avoid skating backwards.
- flipneil

this may be the most accurate statement, alto one game is not enough for me and he actually played decent. his foot speed is an issue against speedy forwards

This is shaping up to what I think will be the crappest trade deadline ever.

The Oilers should be forced to trade away their first pick

He's already used up a year of his ELC regardless. It just pushes forward another year when he switches from RFA to UFA.

At this point - by being a baby and not reporting to the minors he has decreased his value to the lowest possible point. The teams who aren't interested in an entitled 20 year old have dropped out of the hunt. The teams who are interested have probably lowered their offers.

I think my point is Drouin isn't helping his cause - but his trade value as a whiny non hockey playing kid today will be equally as low as his trade value as a whiny non hockey playing kid next week.

If he doesn't get moved by the deadline I wonder if he begs to come back and play in the AHL or if he just decides to retire.(/wait for an offseason trade)

Not necessarily on the bold...

http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...on-unlike-any-in-history/

Should the 20-year-old forward remain suspended for the rest of the season, the Lightning could seek to have his contract tolled. If successful, that would leave Drouin with two years of entry-level remaining and make him an even more valuable commodity.

What you are referring to is true as well but not what i was getting at

Another potential consequence of this situation is that Drouin won't register an accrued season if he doesn't spend two more games on a NHL roster by mid-April -- which, as GeneralFanager pointed out on Twitter, means that he wouldn't be eligible for unrestricted free agency until July 2022 rather than one year earlier.

Two separate issues. The ELC issue would have to go before an arbitration board so no guarantee which way it would go but it is still an option should this play out the rest of the year with no change

whoa!

drouin going into uncharted terriroty here. taking the article at face value (it is sportsnet), doesn't seem like he necessarily choose the best path to a bigger pay day.

you gotta think the best thing for him is to report to the ahl and get playing again.
