Let's be real guys. For the Oilers to make that trade, they're going to want bollig too. They're going to need to protect those new assets. That's getting to be a bit much though.

haha only OG really

I mean look at his avatar of Hartley
he either is Hartley himself trying to defend his lover, or he's getting paid with "special" fun times by Hartley and Russell together

All year long the Pacific division has been slagged as the league's week sister, and it's been justified. However, the Central division as a whole isn't all that and a bag of chips either. There seems to be a levelling out. A quick glance at the standings has the appearance of the Central dominating the Pacific, but a closer look shows that the race is closer than it appears.

The games in hand don't mean anything if they aren't point producing games, but they can make up quite a bit of ground if won. Chicago has 76 points, but have played 57 games. Dallas has 73 in 54 and St. Louis has 69 in 56. The King's have 67 but have only played 52 games. The Sharks and Ducks are down a little more , with 60 in 52 and 59 in 52. But they are a good leg up on the bottom 4 of the Central who 2 of which sit in the wildcard spots at 58 points but Nashville 's played 54 games and Colorado 56.

Every pre-game report references how many points out of a wildcard spot, and the point gap to 3Rd in the Pacific.
There's still other teams to climb over to get there, but the. Flames now seem to have a better shot at a wildcard spot than at a Pacific division playoff position.

Calgary ...52 GP 51 points
Colorado 56 GP 58 points
Nashville 54 GP 58 points.
Anaheim 52 GP 59 points
San Jose 52 GP 60 points

I don't like Calgary's chances of making the playoffs this year, but sure like their chances of catching a wildcard spot more than supplanting SJ or ANA.

The Flames need to start winning those games in hand and start to crawl closer to Colorado and Nashville, starting tonight with the Sharks.

Thank you for a non-insult laden post and actual facts on the Flames...Appreciated!

Its nice to think theres a chance but lets be honest, it will take an unprecedented run to even make it a possibility. Until the organization realizes that, we will continue to see the same line up...

The best thing about the Wideman suspension, is that it keeps him out of the lineup for now. Thus far, the team is 3-1 without him and Hamilton has seen an increase in PP time , resulting in 1 PPG and 2 PP assists in 4 games for Dougie. Hopefully, after Bettman's decision is announced, and the NHLPA decides to test the independent arbitration process, Wideman's suspension is reduced enough to move him to a contender he would agree to.

I'd like to see more Jooris and less Colborne. I don't know why Jooris seems to draw the short straw so often ? I don't attend practises, but I watch every game, and it seems to me that he doesn't get himself out of position and he's always skating all out. He seems to drive possesion , fore-checks like a demon and doesn't turn the puck over, but rather drives the net. The opposite can be said of Jumbo Joe.

I agree that we need to see some different lineups, and find something new. It does look like tonight will have
FERLUND - GRANLUND - JOORIS for a third line, but Colborne might replace JOORIS on that line. I'm hoping not. That could be a nice checking/ scoring and defensively responsible 3Rd line

Colborne is the big body...its all I can guess?!
Ferlund needs to embrace his role. He's not a 30 goal scorer. Be a pest. Ask Kevin Bieksa what he should be.
I'm curious how the 3 hooligans play tonight.

At least OG recognizes he's an NHL player. All you numpties who keep spouting he's the worst thing to ever happen to this team need to take a chill pill.

And saying Hartley needs to be fired asap?! Do you remember the wealth of super great coaches the Flames had before Hartley? Keenan? Butter? Dutter?
Hartley gets this team to win a round in the playoffs and it's off with his head? Grow up. [/img]

"Russell is an absolute sieve in his team’s zone. He bleeds shots and scoring chances against, and his goals-against average is decimal points from being dead last"

"What I think is manifesting here is that Russell’s skill of shot-blocking isn’t so much a skill as it is a necessity. Since he’s always in the defensive third of the ice, he frequently has to block shots. "

Even Todd and other hockey writers have taken notice to this, just some beer-goggle fans don't seem to appreciate REALITY

Well the article is true, he's not a shut-down defenseman. And it is Yost writing it so take that for what its worth... Russell is not a 6 million dollar defenseman, hell he's not even a 5 million but he's a utility guy that can play decent enough in a 3/4 or 5/6 role. Ask the Oilers how hard it is to find a decent blueliner short of giving up one of their top guys (like we'd have to give up Gaudreau/Mony/Bennett... )

I don't think he's the second coming at all but if he's gone who takes those minutes? We slide Wideman back there (once he returns from purgatory)? Engellend? Smid? those are better options? Thats the issue who moves up with Hamilton? I'd like to see the kids get called up but theres allot of contract in Wideman, Engellend and Smid to be bench guys. If we can move any of those 3, the kids will get some NHL ice. Unless its a ridiculous return, who's a better option thats (honestly) available if Russell is gone? Hey if it is ridiculous or even semi-ridiculous I'm all for a trade...

We need to wait until some contracts expire or move guys out via trade. I don't expect that to happen anytime soon sadly.

Please find the post where I said Russell should be signed for 5 x 5.5m.......

It was a month ago I said I didn't want him traded (at that time) because the Flames were still in the thick of things and they do not have a better option at #4. I even said that if the situation was different come the trade deadline they should trade him haha. Again...it's all about comprehension boys! But any way....keep sucking your friend off for all I care

I don't get all the venom from Flame fans on Russell. He's a good value 2.5 to 3.5 mill defender. Problem is, he plays 22+ minutes per game & has been consistently for awhile, last year, playoffs & this year. He's one of the best shot blockers in the league & doesn't miss too many games. Who gives a (frank) that his corsi sucks. On the PK is where you want a guy like Russell blocking shots when possession is not an issue. Then give him minutes accordingly when he isn't killing penalties. But Mr rocket scientist Hartly has (frank)ed us by utilizing him like a #3 defender. That's why his $$$ for a new contract is so inflated. (frank), take a look at Dmen that play over 20 minutes get paid. His minutes should be 4th highest of our defensive group unless we are being a bunch of boneheads & taking a bunch of penalties that night. Someone is going to over pay him between 4.5 to 5.0 mill per & we just can't afford that. He is a very valuable rental for a playoff team, which is why we are going to get a late 1st rounder for him, maybe more if the market goes our way. We can't afford him because Wideman & Smid are pretty close to being immovable players/contracts. Wideman maybe but that 20 game suspension (frank)ed us. Any word on his appeal?

All I'm saying is it could be worse. He could be Schultz bad. At least he puts in the effort to block shots and looks like he's trying. I'm not saying keep him. I would like to see him gone myself, but holy crap the posts in here aren't about Hartley or Russell, they are anger filled childish poop posts directed at people in the forum.

This isn't the oilers thread. We're better than that

What the (frank) is wrong with sportsnet!! Out of 4 sportsnet channels I have 3 are airing the (frank)ing Dallas Chicago game, and the last one has the Oilers and leafs. Then Tsn decides that they better put the Oilers Leafs game on 2 of their feeds.

For some reason they have Calgary's game starting at 11 my time, it actually started at 9:30. Not the 1st time these female genitalias have done this this year too. (frank)in bumholes.

Apparently the rest of the sportsnets are joining the game at 11. I'm watching the end of the Rush game right now . Just starting to get into lacrosse, kind of nice of Edmonton to gift us a championship team

Ya 360 doesn't even show up on my cable guide unless I want to pay for it. It doesnt make sense to me why they'd do that. Just put the "lesser" games on sportsnet flames for (frank) sakes. No one gets that stupid (frank)in 360 channel.
