Yeah but if you're drafting past 5th overall, you better get out your deck of Tarot Cards...

In ten years of drafting at those levels, we're statistically "likely" to pick up an all star player.

#5 sometimes gets you Brayden Schenn or Nino Niederreiter. Similar to what you said after #5, 5-10 looks pretty poop in most cases in years that have guys developed now. Brett Connolly, Granlund, Burmistrov, Scott Glennie, Paajarvi, Filatov, Hodgson, Zach Hammill. Some are decent to an extent, but poop numbers considering what we would want out of a top 10. To be fair, you've got your couture's, Voracheks and so on, but damn thats a lot of misses and i used strictly forwards, a lot of underwhelming D chosen as well. Not to mention, some years are just very underwhelming in general when looking back. Granted they're still all relatively young, but we all know the bait gets cut even when they're young.

It's just the way the NHL model works. You're drafting 18 year olds, you might as well be drafting 15 year olds. You have no idea how players are going to project because the average NHLer starts his career when he's 21. Teams get credit for it, but there's no real credit to be had. Will Detroit get credit for Larkin? Larkin is from Michigan... that would have been like us drafting a Jersey kid and all of a sudden, he becomes good and they'd be like "Oh, the Devils did it again"... no offense to Detroit, but they don't get much credit for that one. About as much credit as Montreal would get for drafting Guy Lafleur...

18 is way too young to draft players at, and now it's become a huge problem.

They either have to draft for only 3 rounds or change the draft age... they can't keep both and hope this system brings parity for the league.

(frank)ing mcjesus with 5 points last night holy (frank), I mean it was against the laughs but still this kid will win the rookie scoring race even with giving the rest of the field a 37 game jump on him
