I hate to say this but your last couple of GM's were not exactly Scrooge-like when dealing high draft choices for veteran players.

So how about edmonton. It would have to be a money in money out deal.

Hartnell would be an experienced top 6 forward edmonton could use. Add in a younger damn with pedigree

Edmonton could return Eberle for the damn and Schultz for Hartnell.

Obviously a profess ional gms would mix a few other elements in there to balance out dollars and value.

But as a framework it might work

That would defeat the purpose of moving Hartnell for Columbus. Moving Hartnell would be 90% about cap space and 10% about opening roster spots for younger players. So that's a big fat no to that idea.

Hartnell is signed through 2018-2019 season. It will be tough to trade him with three years left on his contract. He seems like more of a buyout candidate in a year or two.

It's not tough when the guy is still producing. People have to understand this isn't Columbus trying to unload an aging forward whose production is falling off. He's on pace for his 3rd 50 point season in a row.

This is Columbus attempting to sell high. They acquired Hartsy for RJ Umberger (lols) and if they can move Hartnell for a pick and or prospect it's a huge win for the organization. On top of that, they'd be clearing up some cap space to sign the big 4 RFA's this summer Jenner, Karlsson, Murray, Jones.

But you also have to remember that I don't think moving him is a must. CBJ will shed almost 4 mil in cap with Bourque and Falk leaving. If they can dump Tyutin that's another 4+. If you do that things start to look a lot brighter and moving Hartnell is less of a priority. If you CAN'T move Tyuting than it becomes more important to possibly try and move Hartnell.

While I'm sure CBJ would rather move Clarkson's contract, it's just a matter of whose contract is easiest to move imho. Hartnell is very valuable. There are a ton of teams who'd love to have him on their roster in the playoffs.

That said, lord knows I wish we could move Foligno's contract. That's looking so bad right now.

Great news. This is a very affordable bridge deal. I expected a bridge deal, but this is much cheaper than I expected after CBJ signed Savard to 4.25 mil/yr. I'm guessing his injury history is a reason for the lower number. Either way, it's great news for Columbus.

Eberle is a young 24 ish top line winger. While it may not be ideal to you. Would be a great addition

And he turns 26 in a couple months. Not saying he isn't a good player, but I have no interest in another 6mil/yr forward. Reality for Columbus is they have a few really bad contracts and are going to have to rely on some underpaid guys until that's resolved.
