I would be ok with it but then you would get the whole argument of how we are moving a player that actually wants to play here and there isn't many or hasn't been many in the past maybe it was more of a cultural thing with Lou and hopefully some of that has changed with Ray being here and more players will want to come here and not because we where the only team willing to overpay.

Because he'll be 34 in June, and has his 2nd injury this year, that's how.

NMC. Along with the fact that I don't see the Devils getting equal value. Teams have games in hand but they are still in the middle of a playoff race.
- smellmyfinger

Trade him to a team in a playoff position looking for scoring. Anaheim and Nashville would be teams that he could waive his NMC. Unless he fetches us a 2nd, that would be unfair value, if we got something like, 1st, vesey(may not sign with NSH), smith from NSH or 1st, ritchie and possibly a defenseman from ANA. Those would be fair value even if vesey didn't sign with us.

Not sure what that had to do with what I said as I would be on board with moving him for a good haul.

Am I the only one that feels like Stevens should've had a statue already, and maybe even had one instead of Marty? Does anyone else remember the incredible void this team had for years after Sevens retired? He was as great of a captain as anyone, and the best captain NJ ever had. He set the tone in the room, on the ice; he's as much of a reason for our Cups and success as Brodeur. I'm not taking anything away from Brodeur and his outstanding career, but I think Stevens is right there with him in terms of value to this team. Brodeur is obviously unarguably top 5 goalie of all time, maybe top 3.. maybe the best. Stevens isn't a top 5dman. But on this team, to represent our success and everything the Devils stood for in those 90s-2000s.. it's Stevens 1st, Brodeur 2nd. The post-Brodeur void wasn't and isn't nearly as severe as the post-Stevens years.. even with Brodeur on the team. That's the difference, in my opinion.

you have to build a team with some good players.. unless you plan on tanking next year instead of building. That's the only reasoning I can see for trading Cam. I'm ready to build after this year's pick, and not waste any more of Schneider's prime.

Agreed! I too have The Captain at the top of my list of Devils and then Marty (distant second). Scotty IS Devils Hockey at its core! His hit on V.Kozlov in the 95 cup finals had the Wings shaking in their skates the rest of the series (see also hits on Ron Francis, Lindros and Kariya)

Dude, not only that. But the NHL should have named a trophy after him, The Stevens Trophy, for the TRUE defensemen out there, the ones that play D likes its meant to. And Im not biased, if there ever was a true Dman, he was it.

I agree man players knew games in advance when they had to play the Devils and that's because of Stevens. No one was scared to play against Marty although they probably didn't like it but they feared crossing that blue line with him out there. He had the ability to wreck multiple players at the same time the guy was an animal and players where held accountable in our dressing room we haven't had any one that was even half the leader Stevens was since he left and I doubt we ever will he was In a class of his own!

But what you would get for Cam would fill the void on the team. If we got a prospect like Vesey or Ritchie they could play next year, and we have Zacha, Q, and Santini could all be on the team next year at some point. The team is without Cam now and they are doing fine to a point. They wouldn't be tanking because they got guys that could make the team next year and players you would get for Cam would be on the team next year.

If we keep Cam for too long his value will go down and his injuries will pile up.

That's what people said about Patty early in his career. Just because he was quick and a smooth skater it didn't look like he was trying hard but he was always in position so he didn't need to skate hard all the time.

I hope he becomes elite we could use it. I hope he doesn't end up being the forward version of gelly lol we could really use his size up front though lol

Just be patient. Got to give these things time. Gelinas is 24 so I'm pretty sure we can figure out what we've got in him. Zacha's 18.

Gelinas has now gone from disappointing to infuriating. I haven't skated in years, but I'm pretty sure I could take the puck away from him.
