But when i look at this team its the contracts that have me worried not the trades. The trades aren't what has us in the bottom 5.
- Sabresfan-365

nope

it's girgens, ennis, moulson, gionta, foligno, franson, larsson, coli, and not having a number 1 d man to play with risto

Agreed. Although I look at the trades and think, what championship caliber players did we get? O'Reilly.....and a couple of low IQ players from WPG.

Even with Kane looking pretty damn good lately, he's doing it on the 3rd line

Im sorry but that's a horrible comparison. The Yankees can buy their way out of mistakes, the salary cap prevents any team in the NHL from doing so, whether they are a cap team or not.
- Sabresfan-365

I know it's different in baseball. Somewhat.

Did the salary cap or $ prevent us from buying out horrible mistakes Leino, Ehrhoff, Hodgson? Nope.

Would $ have prevented Winnipeg, Calgary, Nashville, Florida, etc etc etc? Yes.

Big money is a big advantage, regardless of cap.

Agreed but those are all support guys and there performance usually depends upon how good the core is.

Right now the core is young and more importantly incomplete. With all due respect to McGinn and his good season, you can't expect to be taken seriously if he's in your top 6. Ditto Gorges on the top pair.

I would have played bogo by default with risto

girgens in top 6 with larsson on the third line with mcginn and gionta

once the moulson experiment fizzled

If you want to go riding in the tall green grass, you better not spook the horse.

Please tell me how many playoff games the "proven winners" Kane and Bogosian have been apart of. I'll wait

Haha all that I wrote and all you can do is put words in my mouth to try and refute it. Try again.

Sounds silly after a few games but maybe Lehner. Either way I think they need at least one more

That's my point though. They didn't trade for someone like Marian Hossa is his prime or someone like that. And yes I know they aren't available everyday, but that's why you are pateint. You wait for someone of that caliber to become available, and use the assets you have stockpiled to get him

I suppose the counter argument here is the assets we had weren't as valuable as we would have liked to believe.

I get that but that's because he's sometimes double shifted, plus he kills penalties and plays PP.

His last goal was on the 3rd line, facing lesser comp on most of his shifts
