You didn't actually watch the video you posted did you?

At :48 seconds they talk about hitting an engaged and unsuspecting oppenent.
At 1:50 they list why he was suspended for 1 game and the reasons given are
1. Hitting an unsuspecting opponent
2. History
3. No injury

No where in that clip is a glove mentioned .

Did Lucic take his glove off? Nope. Again the two incidents are extremely similar, if Simmonds did want to get a game, he have responded appropriately with a slash or a cross check.

Sorry if I misu derstood. From the boxsxore I read McDonagh was called for a cross-check (another bix says high-sticking) and a slash, no embellishment was called.

All I know is the butt end that hit Simmonds in the face a few shifts earlier by the Rangers should have been called.

Then Simmonds should have gotten 4 mins for a rough and slash then McDonagh 2 for the cross check and that is it.

The thing I don't get about McD cross check that everyone keeps leaving out is he put his stick in front of him bc Simmons turned around to take a late run at him. I don't think McD aimed for Simmonds head, he's not that type of player and punching an unsuspecting guy in the right spot is extremely dangerous. That punch was a lot harder than most are making it out to be. McD stick is chest height, Simmonds comes in and turns his body and ducks his head right before the hit that's y contact was made with the head. One of the videos posted at 1:22 you can see it.

Meh, I think it was intentional by McDonagh, and good for him protecting himself. Messier did that all the time back in the day when people would run at him. Like I mentioned before, there seems to be a history here between McDonagh and Simmonds.

Simple fact of the matter is, they both deserved penalties, no one should have been tossed and hopefully McDonagh is back soon and it was precautionary

I think hextall understands this was going to take a couple seasons after he took over so he's willing to ride out the hard times. I wouldn't expect a fire sale unless things really got out of hand

the irony of Chris Pronger ultimately deciding that a Flyer shouldn't be suspended for a sucker punch resulting in a concussion is that some day Chris Pronger will sue the NHL for not protecting him enough from concussions in his career and the effects of such concussions as he gets older.
