Sutherland is probably the worst official in the NHL and that is saying something.
- MidnightMarauder

I think one of the officials is reffing our game vs the Caps today.

Should be interesting.

That doesn't make sense though, by rule a match penalty would have to be rescinded in order to not have a hearing
- Bannedforbros

It's not an automatic suspension.

It doesn't make sense that Voracek was allowed to hop off the bench after the power play expired for the Rangers but there he was, breakaway chance and all.

NBC today right?

Should be a good game. Flyers played Washington tough last time they matched up.

I know they say they review the refs, but I really find that hard to believe. I don't mind a ref missing a penalty here and there, but the calls yesterday were completely awful.

The Simmonds match penalty, the Moore phantom hook, the Voracek breakaway, the extra 2 to Lindberg, those refs and linesman should have to go for a conditioning stint to the AHL

leaving all that Flyer-Ranger stuff behind now, one thing that was huge yesterday, in the absence of Ryan McDonagh, Keith Yandle stepped up enormously.

he was fantastic, truly, even beyond the goal, he was easily the best Ranger all day. Most minutes on the team at 27:33

He is a really really good player. And, it should make people realize finally that it's not Yandle "being used wrong" that he doesn't play enough to satisfy much of the Ranger fanbbase, it's that Yandle and McDonagh are both left side top pairing defensemen, and AV feels better going with McDonagh in every key situation.

That's it, bottom line. McDonagh is the reason Yandle is underutilized, and Yandle really showed yesterday that he can step up and take over when he needed.

He was marvelous.

- jimbo83

Yesterday showed that Yandle still does have great trade value if the Rangers decide to move him. He won't be just given away

What was even better was the explanation given that if Voracek were to have scored, on said breakaway, it wouldn't have counted.

Yea, that would have went over well with a sedated Flyer crowd.

didn't that happen recently in football, the Steelers-Bengals where the Bengals accused a player of faking a concussion and he actually had a serious concussion?

accusing McDonagh of faking a concussion in this era of the lawsuit and people suffering long term problems is definitely something I would expect from the Flyers organization.

- jimbo83

Who from m the flyers organization said anything like that?

Officials need to be graded and properly dealt with when they botch a game the way they did yesterday.

Just like in most walks of life/industries, you get judged for how you work.

Porfessional sports officials get treated like Washington politicians or weathermen; they can perpetually misstep and carry on with their day.

Simmonds can actually fight but he is not a heavyweight by any means. McIlrath gets his hands on him, assuming he actually plays, Simmonds' jaw might be a little shifted.
- MidnightMarauder

So why would as tiop line , 20-25 goal producing p!ayer drop the gloves with a goon?

Should the Flyers call up a goon to make things square with McDonagh for the cross check to the head?

It sounds just as stupid from both perspective's.. Both players did it wrong with the refs doing it the worst. A match major and a dive should get the refs fined or have to watch hours of film

In hearing Voracek talk after I don't think the linesmen knew he was asking if he could go in with the Simmonds penalty being up because no one was in the box.

I just find it hilarious that if Voracek would have scored the officals told AV the goal wouldn't have counted. I think the Flyers fans would have tar and feathered the refs with them trying to explain why the goal didn't count

McIlrath is not a talentless goon; he's just a big strong kid that has a considerable weight advantage on Simmonds.

But having said that, if you play with that edge that Simmonds has, you have to answer the bell on occasion.

I agree that both players handled this poorly but what sent it over the edge is how the officials handled it. Just a poorly managed moment that could have been squelched if the stripes knew what they were doing.
