Interesting way of defending himself then, following through with his stick to Simmonds' head.
- feelingkettle

How can he "follow through" when he's standing still, more like Simmonds head followed through Mac's stick

The slash wasn't enough for Simmonds he just had to sucker punch him, it's Ok we'll see how tough Simmnds really is when McIlrath challenges him next game, all this talk of Simmnds not backing down from anyone, we'll just wait and see how full of poop that is

he got 4 minutes, no complaints. They were deserved.

That's the funny thing about all of this; most sane Ranger fans are not looking at McDonagh as a helpless victim. He mixed it up with Simmonds and got caught with a sucker punch.

That's hockey, it happens, just hope he doesn't miss too much time.

Meh, you could argue a stick to the head is just as intent to injure as a punch to the jaw. Neither should've gotten a match, but they pretty much did the same thing. Both were dangerous shots to the head.

Simmonds can actually fight but he is not a heavyweight by any means. McIlrath gets his hands on him, assuming he actually plays, Simmonds' jaw might be a little shifted.

Who the (frank) absorbs a hit in a crosschecking position with arms extended? THAT is dangerous as well. If he was standing still, then that is dangerous to him as well.

Seriously.

I'm still looking for Mcdonagh's slashing penalty, must of happened at the same time as Moore's phantom hook

Not disputing Simmonds is a punk but McIlrath, now that he has acclimated himself to fighting in the big leagues, is an intimidating dude to throw down with.

Lately?

The last three seasons have been some of the worst I have ever seen and I have been watching for 26 years.

Yes, should've been Mac 2 for cross checking and Simmonds 2 for a slash and 2 for roughing but it doesn't change the fact it was a sucker punch and we lost our captain for who knows how long

I guess we'll see what happens, but really it's a shame Simmonds punched him, because the players involved should've handled it then and there and be done with it.

I think the McDonagh/Simmonds thing goes back aways.

Can't remember if it was last year or the year before, but it was the end of the game, McDonagh lost his glove and Simmonds two handed him right at his hands.

Well, you cross check someone to the head, you should be ready to answer for it. I don't think Simmonds meant to drop him, but if he had just punched him and he stayed up, we wouldn't even be talking about this.

Not to say this is McDonough's fault. Obviously, both are at fault.

Agree with that, unfortunate result, if anything the refs should be called in for a hearing.

Makes sense, both have been in this rivalry for the last five years. Each plays a big role, for their respective teams, and they often match up against one another.

That doesn't make sense though, by rule a match penalty would have to be rescinded in order to not have a hearing

Nah, Flyers fans are not as whiny as Pens fans.
