Here's my concern about this...I don't like the comparison to Hall. I really, really hope he's better than that. Because if he's not, I think we're in trouble.

I can't even imagine how good Eichel is going to be when he's 23-24, comparing him to Hall will just be a joke.

The article compares their rookie numbers though. It does point out, however, that Eichel is playing center, which is more demanding and is playing at a time when scoring is down in comparison.

ha... so did I... eight years ago. And got heckled by a kid who in all likelihood could have been 12. Did we get shellacked like 5-2 or something?

Hey, do you like Brorrito's?

I absolutely love Eichel's growth so far this year, he has a really good head on his shoulders. I'm sure the way he's been playing, more team first instead of I'm the superstar, has been by the coaches design. But, if he was told to go out there and make the defense look stupid we'd be seeing a lot more highlight reel goals too.

Like I said, I feel like he's a better player than Hall. But I'm just afraid that it's a bias I have since Eichel a Sabre and Hall is an Oiler.

I've now seen the same type of thing happen for 3 years with Girgensons. As he goes, so does the team. He's a core piece of this team, though he's more of a complimentary type of player. Guys like him are more than necessary for a team to be successful though.
- HonkFortheGoose

I could see him becoming our "Callahan"
With the talent he has, he can fit on a line with Eichel & score 20ish goals, or he can play on the 3rd line in a defensive role
He's not untouchable for me,
But it would have to be a heck of a player coming back (young, top pair defenseman)

I also don't understand how a city of that size shuts down on the weekend at like midnight. It was like crickets. Nor was there anywhere that we could find to get something to eat at that point. So we were all starving since we'd eaten dinner at like 5 in order to make it to the game.

In Boston?
Bars are open till 2
Most food places are closed by midnight, but there's a few that are open later. Depends what part of town you're in

You know, I was pondering writing a follow up to that link. But then I had the same quandaries about actually comparing him to Hall.

They're much different players. But they do share some similarities. Their rookie production per 60 and their possession drive.

They're also both very fast and handle the puck very, very well. They're also both explosive offensive talents.

As far as I can tell, that's where the similarities stop.

Offensively, I think Hall and Eichel will have similar offensive careers. Hall had a very bad year last year and he's been reckless (this year not so much)

Eichel isn't at all reckless and is a smarter player than Hall. Eichel's been a conditioning machine his entire hockey career, and I bet he'll be completely ready for the rigors of the NHL schedule by next fall. That, combined with his intelligence on the ice and ability to remove himself from high danger situations, I think he'll play a lot more games than Hall.

Hall also goes to high danger areas of the ice more often. He's more prone to injury entering those areas.

I guess to sum up, removing the dangerous part of Hall's game, I wouldn't be that disappointed to see Eichel putting up 80-90 point seasons every year like Hall can.
Becoming a player like Hall, I too would be worried. But I don't think we have to worry about that.

Eichel is a center...he's putting up Hall like numbers doing that...I think we'll be just fine....

...when we put Matthews on his wing

Love what u did there!

Stamkos is back at RW again for Tampa
If he's ok not playing center, I'd go after him as a UFA for sure
Imagine adding him & a top pick to our forwards group?
Or we take that pick & trade for a top pair defenseman...

I don't think Chuchrun is as NHL ready as guys like Jones & Ekblad were
Wouldn't hate it if we took him,
But I'd prefer a young guy with top pair talent that's already in the NHL
If Lehner plays like this next year,
We're competing for the playoffs...
If we also add a "Stamkos" and find a "top pair" defenseman...
We could do some damage in the playoffs

True but I would rather a guy on his ELC for 3 years as eventually cap space is going to become an issue

True statement but who knows how long until that guy is ready.

I still think Demers could be a good target for us this off season. He is another right handed shot though. But is a top 4 quality d-man. One of the few on the market though so there will be other suitors.

I only got to watch bits and pieces of last night but a lot of the analysts for Buffalo were saying how great 9 - 22 - 12 played together as a 3rd line last night and hoped they stayed together.

Girgensons is really proving he is more than "just" a 3rd line checking center. I think he is a legit top 6 winger. I don't know if he is on a legit top contending team though.

Don't know what they'll do when Ennis comes back either.
