He got absolutely laid the (frank) out by Smith-Pelly at our blue line, but as a whole I agree, he played well.

schedule does get easier as well

Not that I think it happens, but let's say we start getting close to a WC spot come the trade deadline. How close do we have to be, if at all, to switch from sellers to buyers or at least holders? This was the blog what, 4 days ago? But what's the number? 5 points out? 3? In the last spot?

I take back 75% of what I have said about Lehner

for me, that's a start

- homiedclown

ya know, for someone who was a big Reinhart supporter at the beginning of the season, I'm kind of surprised you wouldn't give Lehner a chance.

Not saying he's bad. Not saying he's good. But he deserved a chance.. and still does.. to prove himself to be an effective starting goalie.

I mentioned it last blog, but Girgensons is more than "just a 3rd line center we can pick up cheap anywhere."
you can't just pick up his desire and drive anywhere….lord knows the Sabres have had plenty of those guys over the years….look great on paper, but disappear when it counts.
Dude is a keeper, even if it doesn't show up on the score sheet at the moment.

What an incredibly ignorant statement. Larsson, yeah. Girgensons, no. Not even close.

He's been better than anyone expected. The Lehner-haters were ready to pounce and the backers were ready to give him a pass for being out so long. For him to come back and play as he has is surprising. Of course, still a small sample size, but if he can be a #1 goalie it'll really help us moving forward.

Not to mention those eyes... He was glaring at someone yesterday after being run into and I swear I thought he was staring into my soul.

i enjoy how he gets in the game.. you can tell he cares, he has the fire

his play on that first goal was nice.. i think a lot of players would have not gotten in there to pick that puck up..

that kinda vibe has gone around here a few times…that he's expendable.
for what, I understand. but part of me would rather have him in the playoffs than a soft "natural 30 goal scorer" who disappears in the playoffs. Not talking about anyone in particular. But been there, done that.

Well at this moment it is showing up on the score sheet. He's turned it on and you can see it in his game. He attacking the net, creating opportunities, and making things happen. When he's on his game it's exciting.

Maybe Bylsma decided to play him super heavily defensively in the beginning because Lehner was out and we were still growing as a team and on defense. Now that Lehner's playing solid and the D has been holding its own he's let him off the leash a bit and it's paid off with points, goals, and wins.

He does. But, at times he allows it to get in the way. He's conscious of it. He's tried to make sure he doesn't get too carried away, but it is something that can also be a hindrance for him at times.

He's one of the rare players on this team that understands that when Eichel has the puck, you get open with your stick on the ice…you would think Moulson would know that too...

I've now seen the same type of thing happen for 3 years with Girgensons. As he goes, so does the team. He's a core piece of this team, though he's more of a complimentary type of player. Guys like him are more than necessary for a team to be successful though.

he's a great utility player. he has the skill, strength and speed to play on any line. a replacement 3rd line center can play just that. Checking line duties.

I can't speak for hdc but for me, it was the price that was paid for him and then the ankle injury, piled upon the reports of him coming in way out of shape.

One thing about the price, I think it says a lot for a player when you see that the team you're going to believes in you enough to make that trade. He had to come out and show he was worth that price and so far he's made a good impression.

That will happen to just about every single athlete that's not allowed to do anything other than sit on the couch in a dark room day in and day out for over 3 months. Hell, I can't imagine what I'd look like if I did that. I think they'd need to wheelbarrow my ass out of the house.

His passion that I now see hopefully is a bonus.
Guys like him, Hextall like, can let their emotions affect them in a negative way once the snowball starts down that hill.
But, in my experience of playing the position, I like Lehner's passion.
IMO, goalies always need to be the strangest dude in the room and....they usually are.

Also we picked up that other guy that is mentoring the Rookies....

But that's never mentioned in the price because Murray was fleeced by his uncle or he was doing his uncle a favor and is tearing this organization apart from the insides.... CONSPIRACY!!h!euqig!!!!

It wasn't promising, but it was frustrating for some of us, myself included, that some folks put their hate goggles on and saw the bad and in along the same language thought Murray was an idiot.

I'm of the impression Murray knows a (frank)ton more than we do. In saying that, I tried to place myself in his shoes, see what he saw. And what I saw was

A young and very talented 24 year old former 2nd round pick who can grow and develop with this team.
A goalie who helped win a Calder Cup.
A goalie who in his very young career has performed very well at times (and bad at others)
A goalie who is extremely intense and has been working heavily on handling his temperament.

Overall it's becoming very apparent that Murray can spot talent. He's had his eye on Lehner for a long time, and for the price of a late 1st round pick, this guy could really, ideally round out his game and become a starter for the Sabres for the next ten years.

I commend TM for being aggressive and trying to land special pieces here and there. If Lehner puts up better numbers over an 8 year span than Miller did, I will pay a late 1st round pick every single day. Just don't tell gerbadoo.

Said it since day 1, give the kid a (frank)ing chance. Let's get a larger sample and see how this plays out. Let's see how he performs when he's at his best.
