Jeff Gordon is from northern California, btw...but I agree his hair is perfect

I imagine that, once you become a Nascar driver, you automatically are given a jug of moonshine and property in Alabama.

It's a pretty damn good one. More than a guy cutting you off.

Schenn ≈ Palat/Hertl/Nelson

Schenn < Palat/Hertl/Nelson + Cap Savings

- Tomahawk

I'm not sure how big the cap savings will be on Hertl. He has Couturier-like value to the Sharks.

Idk what's with Palat this season -- injuries, linemate struggles. But in the two seasons prior, if this season is just an anomaly, I'd say he's a much better player than Schenn. Drummondville reunion, baby!

Also, for the record, shouldn't we be debating "auto racing" as opposed to "NASCAR?"

He'll also likely be getting a hefty raise.

completely singling out Nelson here...but Nelson got strong armed into a 3 year 7.5 million dollar contract after 14 and 20 goal seasons...he already has 20 and he will either be gone or will be signed to a massive contract after this one expires

It is a pay me now or pay me later scenario similar to PK subban...Id be willing to bet that Nelsons next contract is much larger than Schenns deal he will sign

So you find him more palatable than Schenn?

Funny because the forces on a NASCAR driver are often equated to a shuttle launch. F1 is even more extreme.

Auto racing is my second favorite sport after hockey...and it's certainly not the first time I've had this discussion with someone....but I have no doubt you'd sing a different tune if you tried it

- YuenglingJagr

Having lost my interest in NASCAR I'd still agree with you on that assessment. I want to drive Dover still for a few laps to see what the forces are really like.

I've also had the same discussion back when Mark Martin wrote his book on physical training for race drivers. It's actually a pretty good read and has some simple exercises that can even be done in a hotel room. That guy was built like a linebacker if he wasn't 5'7" or so.

I was debating auto racing...just compared NASCAR to the shuttle launch. Nascar is hardly the toughest form of auto racing on your body

The only bigger defense in sports is roid rage endured by pro wrestlers.

What is funny about Hertl is he's best remembered for his ridiculous breakaway goal, but he's really not the biggest point producer. Feanor's got it with the Coots comparison. Hertl sees top competition and puts up awesome possession numbers while scoring at a decent ES clip. He's not an offensive stud so much as a sound two way player. Idk what his contract will look like tbh. Could be a Coots like deal. Schenn for Hertl I think I do easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I pay very little attention to NASCAR, but still probably more than the average person. I just have a ton of respect for the drivers especially because they are given almost no credit for the physical shape they are in.

Just another story similar to that regarding the Indy 500...which involves flooring your race car almost the entire race and 800 turns. Have you ever tried flooring your car for more than like 5 seconds. The drivers talk about having to floor their left foot on top of their right foot due to cramping.

The stress on your neck is incredible. Tony Kanaan said that to train and strengthen his neck muscles he watches TV laying on his side holding his head off of the couch.

My dad did that. He drove and had a ride-along. He said it was really cool.

That neck stress is why most race car seats used on ovals now have a brace on the one side to rest the helmet against.
