That's not why he was voted in it was to change the all-star game to show that voting is a joke and that the all-star game is a joke . This was not to make fun of John whatsoever
- gerbe75pts

Rory Fitzpatrick
John Scott

even Zemgus Girgensons (though the votes came from a different country).

Ultimately, this was started by a bunch of smartasses on the internet. It wasn't about proving anything about the NHL and its system. It's merely a symbol of a society which finds its humor in sarcasm.

This year, it snowballed into a fiasco, which, ironically, ended up benefiting the NHL greatly despite its own incompetence.

pissing contests over an all star game?

let's stay on topic

F the Sens

Silly comment. The topic here is almost always "anything that serves as the basis of a pissing contest."

You're better than this.

The Zemgus one is interesting, because I'd argue that in general, he should have been our representative last year anyway.

And, the league managed to throw up on itself by restricting the voting this year to North America. That means that any fans of the NHL in Europe couldn't vote for their favorite players this year and for a sport that really shouldn't be choosy about it's fans, that was a terrible decision.

Buyers in the sense we want young players that have some development (not just picks and no rentals).

Sellers in the sense that we are trading all UFA's that we are not planning on offering a new contract to.

So really both. But I think getting a player like Drouin will be hard to do before deadline, so mostly sellers. I see a deal kind of like the Kings trade a few years ago that brought Fasching to the team, where we trade NHL ready guy now and a pick for a young future NHL player.

According to Murray, we'll be sellers.

The only thing that may change that is if we go on some amazing winning streak the next 3 weeks or so.

I think Johnson and McGinn will bring back the biggest returns. Weber probably not so much.

Major League Baseball ended up cancelling some 65 million votes this year after folks in Kansas City had the team's entire starting lineup leading all candidates. If the NHL followed suit, this wouldn't be an issue. You would think a league that hired the other league to run its digital programming would be on board with the idea.

Absolutely. They have no foresight either. What they didn't realize Latvia loves Zemgus? They didn't think the fans here wouldn't vote a guy like Scott in? Ironically they actually let the fans feel apart of something and almost ruined it. Then again we shouldn't be surprised. The NFL and NBA love scoring and marketing themselves to other countries, the NHL thinks it's time to do the opposite.

See, I think that's stupid too. You can't tell the fans that you'll let them have a say, and then decide later on that you don't like the outcome of it. I would thinkt there's ways to set up the voting to prevent that.

Here's an idea, let the fans of each team vote on who their top 2 candidates from each team would be. Then either set up a second voting system for the game in general using the players that were voted in during the 1st round. It at least eliminates the entire starting lineup coming from 1 team.

Yes, you could still end up with a guy that may not have the same talent level as the others, but if the fans want to see that guy there, so be it.

"it doesn't sound like much but that 5th or 6th round pick, and it's [something] that might only happen once every 11 years, but you could hit on that."
This is an interesting take and this past draft is an example of. Even if you just hit on one guy it can change your team #teamestiphan/borgen

side note, 8 days ago fanduel rounded my 2 cents into a dollar

I played a 5 times up league, won $5

then I went to a web site with expert's picks, used his 2 lineups, turned it into $25

since then, I have been on a tear playing $25-$26 a night, splitting it between tourneys, double ups, triple ups and 5 times up

I am now at $400 in about a week
I do not watch the nba, nor care about it

I put $200 into my bank account of course today

Detroit is a perfect example. Zetterberg was a 7th rounder and Datsyuk a 6th. Moreover, Datsyuk went undrafted in 1996 and 1997.

Obviously, your chances aren't great, but GMTM is right. Every now and again (or two straight years if your Detroit) you could potentially hit on a great player in those later rounds, so it never hurts to be making those picks.

(this will be my final Scott comment I promise)

John Scott didn't get voted in because he sucks. John Scott didn't get voted in because he beats people up. John Scott got voted in because he's John Scott. Because he has the personality people like. Because he scores a goal every year and a half and makes a T-shirt of himself scoring that goal and wears it. It took the right kind of scrub for people to rally around. And for that John Scott deserves it.

How about Jamie Benn, 5th round pick

How about Miller? 5th round pick that was your #1 for years, then traded for a nice return.

Or Ullmark, 6th round pick.

Yes, hitting on a couple more of those would be nice.

I don't hate it. Seemed like the old one you were always likely to accidentally click the wrong thing.
