I think they should do a rookie game. Older players get to rest. New guys go out there at least half giving a poop, maybe to prove something or just have fun. Fans still love it, nhl still makes money. BOOM
- Dr3aMWeav3r

I actually like that idea too. Doesn't the NBA do a game where it's rookies v sophomores? I'd watch either just rookies or rookies v sophomores. Players like Jack wouldn't get a rest but they're young. Give the Jagrs of the league a rest while the youngins play for a bit.

Bang on. The game is a joke, why shouldn't the voting be?
- TheSabresTaco

Maybe the voting isn't a joke. Maybe the voting is a way of saying "We're gonna try create a game where the players actually care and feel honored to have the chance to play."

It sounds like that's what Cab was doing.

I was actually glad that Eichel didn't get picked as our representative though. I think he needs this break. This season is much more of a grind than he's used to. This gives him an opportunity to recharge his batteries a bit for the final stretch.

We've seen evidence of what a recharge can do for him. Here's to hoping he comes back even stronger than the last time.

Exactly. He was mired in a pretty bad slump before Christmas. That break did him wonders. Though we were kind of lucky in that we had a longer break at Christmas than most teams did.

My dad spent 32 years of his life there...retired around 2004, I think.
- Whatnot78

my dad retired from there when he turned 48, right after his 30 years

my grandfather was a designer for them and retired in his mid 60's

my little brother is working there now as an electrician

the nhl schedule is more demanding than the college schedule he had last year

it will take an adjustment

I expect him to be over that hump next season

I agree. Anyone who didn't expect him to struggle with it at times was kidding themselves. Doesn't matter how much you train, you can't prepare yourself for the rigors of it. It just comes with time.

Between his NCAA games, WJC games and the World Championship, he played 55 games last year. So just shy of 30 less than he'll play just in the regular season of the NHL this year.

Why are you guys initially talking about trading the top draft pick if we were to win the lottery...

(Not htat we would after finishing dead last each of the past 2 years and not winning)

Besides McDavid and Eichel... Matthews would probably be the best young talent in the NHL from the draft recently.

The logic behind it, that I can see anyways, is that we don't need another center. If we were to win it, we could trade back by a pick or two (so still top 3) and draft one of the top wingers (which is much more of a need for us) while gaining something else as well, since you'd get more than just a 1 for 1 pick swap in this case.

You get to "restock" the farm a bit or add another piece that you need in addition to filling a more prominent need, all by just trading back a pick or two.

That's how the logic works for me anyway. Not sure that they would do that or anything. I wouldn't care if they didn't either. But I think that's how most people are coming to the conclusion that trading it may be the better option.

Hudson Fasching update....

27 pts (15 goals) in 23 games for Minnesota.

I'd pencil him into our 2nd line RW right now if I were any of you.

With no big top 6 moves unless we draft a stud in that first 3 spots...

Kane - ROR - Reinhart
Girgensons - Eichel - Fasching

Would be my best guess.

Love to see a Puljujarvi/Matthews/Tkachuk/Laine in that top 6 though.

Matthews is billed as a C/LW. We BADLY need LWs.

I get the restock the farm and I would understand if we could get a stud young DMan back in that trade to move back 2 or 3 spots.

I think I'd like to see how Fasching does at the AHL level before I just pencil him in to my top 6. While I like what he's been able to do the last few years, there's been a lot of inconsistency in his game too. That's something he needs to work on a bit.

corey tropp had 42 points in 37 games his last year at mich state

fasching is the only prospect right now with second line upside in the near future (possler wild card), but I would not pencil him in until training camp

plus they need to sign him first

Nobody is saying if they were to get the #1 that Murray HAS to trade it. It's just a thought. Something to kick around. The conversation started yesterday as "Would it be a good idea?"

Like I said, I can see both sides of it.
