roenick was never at a loss for words on any subject...talented player, but in the millbury category when it comes to analysis

IMO the nhl was behind that trade. I dont think the yotes wanted to get rid of scott but because they were able to get Tinordi it was hard to say no.
But why would the Habs agree to it..?

Well they said he doesn't belong at the ASG and he's saying he's busted his ass to become an NHL player. Like he said, it's the best hockey league in the world and he made it into it. That doesn't just happen because you're 6'8".

A few years ago I slid into a ditch and an Amherst cop came and I sat in his car. We talked about how he and his cop buddies played a few games against other teams and Peters was on one of those teams. He said, and I'm paraphrasing here,

"Even a guy like Peters, who is a plug in the NHL, can skate literal circles around anyone who can't play in the NHL. You watch and you think, 'I could do that' but there's no way you're doing that unless you've played your entire life like they have".

John Scott made it into the NHL and stayed in the NHL. He got voted in to the game legitimately. "Would this be something your kids would be proud of?" Uh, (frank) yeah it is. Their dad is an NHL player. Idgaf if he's not an All-Star scoring player, he's in the NHL and that's enough. The All-Star game is supposed to be fun and his kids are going to go down to Nashville with him. I'm pretty sure they'll have fun and they'll be really proud.

I can tell ya, my father actually played pro ball. he bounced between the majors and triple A, but I can tell ya, I've been proud of my father my entire life. We were on the move a lot, states and countries, but it was an amazing experience for what I remember. He busted his ass his whole life to get there.

You know that cubicle at GM that Scott expected he would work in his whole life?

Well, my old man was in the cubicle for 25 years before Scott ever thought about it.

All of us bust our ass in one way or another.

If it actually happened like the article said and they brought his kids into it that's a very low blow. He's the only one who wants to play in the dumb game, just let him.

John Scott have fun (frank) the nhl what a joke
- gerbe75pts

No the joke is having "Star" players begging to take a one game ban for not attending something that is supposed to be for the fans... So this is what you get fans voting in someone that is actually thankful and excited to be a part of it.

Maybe the NHL should listen to its players who are showing that it's worth a suspension to get a rest. 82 games plus preseason plus playoffs isn't easy and for better quality hockey they should either give more rests in the season or lower the number of games.

Id be more than happy seeing the season down to 60 games... I know thats not going to be a popular statement. But my point was that you can't hate the guys that get voted for when your top stars constantly back out.

And that's their opinion and their right to feel that way. That being said, the quality does suffer with the marathon that is the NHL season. Playoffs are better because players lay everything out whereas game 45 maybe they don't. Players look better when they're rested and worse when they're not. Even people who love hockey sometimes feel like there's too much of a good thing when it's June and there are still games.

To say that we who work hard have more insight and more opinion than them doesn't mean much, imo. They work, we work, they went into a line of work that is ultra competitive and pays as such. If the fans are that offended by Ovechkin and Towes not going to the All-Star game they should voice that opinion by boycotting the NHL completely and hurting the cap which will hurt the players. I don't see that happening.

Main point, lower the number of games, increase the number of breaks between games, and increase the quality of the game itself.

I think it was said in the last blog's comments about how if Ovechkin gets suspended for skipping had Scott bowed out he should have been suspended too, right? I'd rather lose the all star game entirely or make it an alumni game and keep the skills comp. Each team has 5 potential alumni reps and you vote them in. Players rest, fans have fun, NHL makes money.

I don't disagree, but good luck getting Bettman and the board to cut the season in half and cut a good percentage of the money

Always makes me laugh when huge sports fans piss and moan about salaries, yet continue to be fans. Then the rationale becomes "well, ***I** don't spend money on anything to do with it, so it's not MEEEEE!"

Do the alumni games before the winter classic get any big viewings? Cause that wouldn't be a bad way to still have a big celebration of the game without killing players currently in

You'd have to get the ENTIRE fan base of every team to stop going, buying any kind of merchandise, and watching games on TV. It's NEVER going to happen, so it's dumb to even suggest it.

I don't know if that guy got his bell rung and didn't know what he was doing, but he fvcked up….big time.
Lucic comes in at a close #2 for punching a linesman in the face….idiot.

Not that I'm aware of. Maybe in the markets that they belong to. I'm not sure however. But I know I'd like to see alumni games. Or Hall of Fame games. Or something. Do a tournament and have the divisions be when they were still the Prince of Wales and Clarence conferences. Idk. That's above my pay grade.

Didn't Kassian only get 1 game for shoving a lineman last week or something?

Lucic looked more like a wild punch thrown as the linesman came into it. Wideman.. No excuse for what he did.

Which is my point. If it's THAT offensive it would happen. If the NHL changed the game completely and people hated it enough that they didn't like the sport they would leave. Ovechkin not going to the game isn't a big deal.
