i think part of the reasoning is that we are probably only dropping one spot or maybe two and still getting one of the fins who are also very good.. i don't know if they are starting to rank them up there with Matthews or not but i have heard they are very good as well
- IndianaSabresFan

Two things I've heard so far. The talent isn't in the McDavid/Eichel category, and Matthews is a clear #1.

I don't know if OEL is -that good- to be swapped for Matthews straight up.
- TheSabresTaco

You could argue that both ways, mention Patrik Štefan, etc. Just really more as the core of the deal.

I think OEL is as good as doughty or shea weber, but younger

That's what I've heard and I heard it from Murray on WGR a few weeks ago.

I say trade the pick. I've got enough centers and want the winger. I trade it to a team in the top 5, go for their first and a player. If nothing is good enough you keep the pick. There's no wrong answer when it comes to that pick.

That said, it won't matter since Edmonton already called dibs.

if the league is so good at rigging this stuff.. why wouldn't they give it to buffalo this year? they need to pull attention away from always giving it to Edm and the draft is in Buffalo..

I'll read almost anything from Player Tribune.

I'm sure they have ghost writer / editors, but me no care. Great articles.

It'll be my luck that Buffalo does end up with the #1 pick. Because I won't be there to see them make it, since I have a wedding to go to that night.

That was really good. I love these articles in the players tribune. They've been great this year.

I'm glad Scott is playing. His wife said it best, he's put his body on the line for years. Why not get this out of it and enjoy it?

Because no one wants Buffalo to win it. Buffalo winning it doesn't help anyone. The market is pretty saturated. We're not going to double our fan base if we get a #1 pick. Toronto is marketable. Arizona could be marketable. Columbus is a team that could build their fan base.

Unless they think having Eichel and Matthews on the same team could really help USA hockey I don't see why they would.

I also don't think they rigged it for Edmonton. Why would they send the best player since Crosby to Alberta where no one on the East Coast that isn't already a hockey fan will see him? If they were really rigging it Toronto would have gotten that pick.

Then you have (frank)faces like Jeremy (frank)ing Roenick.

I consider giving it to Minny for their 1st, 2nd and Brodin.

I read the emphasis a little differently. Here's the part that was the turn for me:

A fan vote, an internet vote — but a vote from among the 700 or so best hockey players in North American professional sports.

And I’m one of them.

If the league thought this was an embarrassment, pretty much all of the players I’ve encountered have thought otherwise. I’ve gotten texts from so many guys saying the same thing: “You should go.”

And that didn’t happen because of the internet. I busted my ass to be one of them. I’ve skated every day since I was three years old to be one of them. I’ve persevered through Juniors roster cuts, Alaskan bus rides, Advanced Dynamics exams, and — yes — fights, to be one of them.

But I’m one of them. And that means a lot to me
.

Scott is saying that he and his family are overjoyed to be a part of the NHL, and the players, and fans, have accepted him and encouraged him to be a part of the NHL. The FU moment comes when - despite the acceptance of the players and the fans - the suits at the league tell him he doesn't belong, and shouldn't be proud.

He's telling the suits that they don't understand what it takes to get where the players have gotten.

H8rs gon h8. The guy has done what very few can do and that's make the NHL and stay in the NHL. He's, by all accounts, a great guy. If Roenick and Millbury and the sort don't like him then hey, (frank) em. The guy didn't vote himself in and every player he said he's talked to has been excited for him. So good for him.

Well they said he doesn't belong at the ASG and he's saying he's busted his ass to become an NHL player. Like he said, it's the best hockey league in the world and he made it into it. That doesn't just happen because you're 6'8".

A few years ago I slid into a ditch and an Amherst cop came and I sat in his car. We talked about how he and his cop buddies played a few games against other teams and Peters was on one of those teams. He said, and I'm paraphrasing here,

"Even a guy like Peters, who is a plug in the NHL, can skate literal circles around anyone who can't play in the NHL. You watch and you think, 'I could do that' but there's no way you're doing that unless you've played your entire life like they have".

John Scott made it into the NHL and stayed in the NHL. He got voted in to the game legitimately. "Would this be something your kids would be proud of?" Uh, (frank) yeah it is. Their dad is an NHL player. Idgaf if he's not an All-Star scoring player, he's in the NHL and that's enough. The All-Star game is supposed to be fun and his kids are going to go down to Nashville with him. I'm pretty sure they'll have fun and they'll be really proud.

I remember Millbury laying into John Scott when he was on our team about how he doesn't deserve to be in the league. Millbury makes the short list of NHL associates who I would like to punch in the face.
