Dazed or not, Wideman appeared to look right at the official and then crosschecked him. 10 games minimum, maybe more.

I don't mind seeing Vinny do well. People are comparing our roster to LA's like it's apples to apples. LA is up near the top of the standings and was before the trade. Vinny went to a team with superior depth at forward which can allow Vinny to do his thing. If he were to have stayed here and played, we'd be seeing him languish playing alongside players who would not be able to completment him. Just because the deal seems to be working out for Vinny and LA doesn't mean it doesnt also work for us. We need the cap space going forward. I just hope Vinny honours his word and retires at season's end here.

Well said

A lot of guys do this all the time. JvR gets traded, so people convince themselves he wasn't good enough anyway. Some wanted Bobby Ryan but somehow, someway he isn't good enough to play in Philly. Jeff Carter was too handsome, so good riddance. Scott Hartnell. There is always this need to downplay a player who was dealt away. Some teams don't have to play a fast game to be a successful team. Heck, skating is great but I think the Flyers would be best served to play more like the Kings, Ducks and Bruins who play big.

I actually just commented about LA's roster. This is absolutely the case. I hope the Flyers' roster can get to that level soon. It's just hard not to imagine Vinny in LA chuckling to himself that he still has it.

If Vinny goes back on his word I hope no team would offer him a contract to force him into retirement. That'd be slimy.

- moose_is_loose

I think that all he'd have to do is refuse to file retirement papers and LA would be in a lot of trouble. My guess is that LA would sit him indefinitely like here in the hopes he'd retire. They don't have the cap space going forward I believe.

Ryan White seems like a good guy and he does work hard. But aside from his goal off on an atrocious turnover, he just isn't really good at much other than winning faceoffs. Hard work does not equate directly to success.
- jmatchett383

I think Ryan White is exactly what a 4th line player should be unfortunately he's being asked to play above his head like Del Zotto, Gudas, Gostisbehere, Bellemare and Vandevelde. We basically have 2 fourth lines playing every night.

I only saw the one angle on the NHL network last night, but you can clearly see Wideman raise his head and appear to be looking directly at the linesman prior to the hit. He also clearly delivers a crosscheck, so it's pretty hard to buy that he ran into him accidentally or just didn't see him.

If there was in fact some agreement for him to retire then I would bet that if he feels like he can continue to play, they shred that contract and make another. Would be kind of shady once that happens though

Exactly. The Kings cap situation is much dicier than the Flyers for 16-17. I don't believe that LA makes the deal without Vinny's assurance that he is going to retire. Also, Vinny has been a class act his entire career, I don't see any way whatsoever that he would go back on his word. If he really wants to continue playing, I believe that he will agree to mutually terminate and then sign with another team. I just don't see him screwing over the Kings after they've given him a chance to play and be happy.

Agreed. I'd much rather see White in the lineup over both Umberger and VDV.

I'm so happy Voracek is turning his season around.

Last night was also proof that if our first PP unit doesn't convert, no one else will. Once Read hit the ice it seemed all pressure was lost. Not to pick on him, but was it someone here that said if Read is our threat on the 2nd unit we're in trouble? We need more sustained secondary scoring.

- moose_is_loose

I've been saying that if Matt Read is our second unit net presence, then we're basically in trouble. If they can settle in the offensive zone, Read plays Simmonds' role.

Also I'm happy Voracek has turned his game around but the word "elite" gets thrown around way too often. The word Elite means Best of the Best. Regardless of how you feel about the All-Star Game, Elite players like Claude Giroux go every year. Most importantly elite players can score on most of their chances. I like Jake a lot and he does a lot of things well but calling Voracek elite compared to actual elite players is debatable. If this were the NFL and we were talking quarterbacks, you can only 5 quarterbacks within these talks.

I dont buy the dazed excuse. He did get hit pretty hard, but looked pissed... slammed his stick on the ice notifying the bench that he was making a change, and then boom, flat out cross checks the ref, and keeps skating like nothing happened. Didnt even look back.

that's my issue. if white is on a traditional 4th line, he could succeed and continue to do the things he does well. Same with PEB and VDV. when they are asked to basically be 3rd liners, then you are setting them up to fail in the eyes of the fans.

Totally. Was there some adverse call or something that was said by the ref that might have lead to that? There has got to be some serious action taken

I think Ryan White is with a mill and 2 sessons on his next deal. Heck, I might throw Jody Shelley money at him if I'm Hextall.

Say what you want, but going on the road to beat the league's best team is no small feat. Hitting Holtby up for 4 goals. Keeping Ovi off the goal sheet. Killing penalties. Survived another atrocious 2nd period to get a huge 2 points.

Too bad they don't play until Tuesday.

Back in his playing days, Paul Holmgren kind of half punched/half shoved Andy Van Hellemond in the chest. Homer got 20 games for that and that was in the heat of the moment. I could see Wideman getting 20 as well, and it won't be less than 10.
