Gagner is a one way offensive player, who has scored 1 assist in his last 15 NHL games this season. What "love" does he deserve? I don't blame Gagner for that goal. I did however not like both his and Umberger's efforts on the 3rd Caps goal.
- MJL

When you are doing yeomans work in the offensive zone like Umberger, a temporary lapse of effort in the defensive end can be overlooked.

You're right, he is a one way offensive player. teams still have success with these types of player. either putting them with 2 two way players or sheltering their minutes, etc etc. we've scored more goals all year than only one team in the league. maybe a little one way offense is what we need. the 2nd power play unit is in shambles, cant even start the cycle. why not put him in Girouxs spot on the second PP. he's right handed, creative, has a solid shot, and has been in this league for plenty of year to not be rattled by being on the PP. its not like that unit can get any worse. keep streit as the qb, gagner and couts on each half board, put read at the dot and raffl in front. its not gonna be the same makeup as the first line, but you need some offensive skill out there. what manning is doing on that unit ill never know.
- sjk540

One way offensive players who teams have success with, actually score. If he's in the lineup, he will be on the 2nd PP unit. My opinion is that Gagner is not good enough to include him on your top two lines moving forward, nor is he the kind of player I want on my 3rd line, moving forward. It was a low risk move that was worth a shot, but I have no interest in him remaining a Flyer. They should look to trade him at the TDL.

Since joining the Flyers, Jake Voracek is tied with Jonathan Toews & Daniel Sedin in points, good for 19th in the NHL in that span. If you have a 5 year stretch where only 18 guys in the league score more points than you, congrats, you're elite.

I don't care if the third line is full of more one dimensional scorers. They don't have to have an ingrained role, as in shutdown unit. Third line to me means nothing, so long as they effectively contribute in whatever way they can. Ideally any player on your team can bounce anywhere around the top 9.

I don't care for Gagner as a forward, period. On whatever line or position, even a scoring top 6 role. And frankly, I'd rather they just remake the Laughton line into a scoring line. He has the ability, and god knows they're sheltered as is. Not with Gagner though.

Laughton is actually a decent offensive player. He just struggled with defense. Having either Read or Raffl with him works well. They just need to find that third linemate that isn't Umberger

Just to be clear: I think Jake Voracek is so much better than Peter Forsberg it's not even funny. I think Jake, when he inevitably gets first ballot enshrined in the Hall of Fame, should have Foppa's plaque thrown out and replaced with his.

Just to be clear.

He makes so many nifty plays using his speed, shot, and sometimes good passing. It's funny how many of us expected him to be a shutdown center. When really he plays more like a scoring winger.

He needs PP time. It's silly why he's not getting it -- replace Manning with him. He adds jack poop. Less than that. If Medvedev goes back in, let Laughton take the Read spot. He has a skill set where I think he could help the PP. Even Berube used him there. It's one of the more baffling things. The player with one of the best shots on the team isn't on the PP.

In my opinion, by definition, if you're a one way offensive player, and you can't earn icetime on one of the top 2 lines, then you're of little value to a good team. That makes you a one way offensive player who isn't that good offensively.
I think you need 3 lines that can score also, but I want players on the team to be two way players. I don't want offensive specialists unless they are really good offensively.

There are a few exceptions such as on a ridiculously deep offensive team like Washington, where they have legitimate top 6 players on a 3rd line because they're so deep.

Tied for 44th in goals over the same span, with Kopitar, Spezza, St Louis, Little and Landeskog.

Ahead of Jagr, Moulson, Lucic, Okposo, Justin Williams, Perron & Oshie

He has the size and nastiness this team desperately needs. I don't want to see the Flyers become like the midget Canadiens.

Over the last 4 seasons he has averaged, over a full 82 game season, 19.6 goals. That's elite power forward stuff right there. We need that.

I love Shea Weber more than anyone else on this board, but there was no way he shouldn't have been suspended for that.

for a long, long, long time. the first forearm smash was bad enough. the second hit where he grabbed his head and rammed it into the glass like in a wwf match is just absurd.
