U really don't think TM will re-sign him?

I guess it depends on what he does from now until then.

It also depends on what kind of deals Sam and Risto get.

Whether he deserves it or not is one thing, but this is "his guy" I feel like if he overpays it will be for him.

I just think it will be a tough decision with all the other guys coming up.

We might have another high priced defensemen at that point.

You really think hes going to get that??. Hes getting 4.5 now and at 31 hes not getting a 7 year deal and certainly not 7.5 mm

Also i wouldn't assume our top pick this year will immediately play top 6 minutes. We may draft a defencemen for all we know

- MCGUIZZY

Yes, I do think he'll get signed for that
Guys get overpaid every year

And although it is an assumption, it's a pretty good one
And if he isn't in our top6 this year, he will be soon enough
Signing Backes could knock Girgensons down to the 3rd line, which would be great
But the price tag...
I don't see how we can fit him

Ladd will prob cost a little less & he's a similar player
Maybe that would be an option

These guys will have teams that are already winning bidding on them though
So we might have to significantly overpay to get them here

Id be very surprised if he isn't extended
But if not, he'll get traded for something good, which prob means another high salary regardless

Although, if the plan is to sign Backes & then trade Kane for a good young defenseman....

I could see something like that happen

I would be too in a way, but let's be honest, he isn't a 6.5-7 mil winger.

I'd even have trouble giving him what Saad got.

For 5.2 mil I think he's fine.

By the time he gets his new deal though...
Idk that 6mil + won't be the norm for a 25 goal scorer

I just hope he's either extended or traded before the last year of his deal starts
It baffles me that teams wait on so many guys
No good comes from it
U either sign the guy for more, be he holds the cards threatening to walk as a ufa
Or u trade him for far less value by he's a rental
Just dumb IMO

He's gotta be that 25 goal guy 1st. And stay relatively healthy.

If he averages 20-25 goals 50 points over the next two years, I wouldn't mind Murray or whoever the GM is at the time giving him a raise

I hear u about the health, but he plaid a physical game. Gotta expect he's gonna miss some time. As long as it's nothing major, and he's healthy for the playoffs, that's all I'm really concerned about.
He scores at that rate, even with his career low shooting percentage points, when he is healthy
Point is...
When he's on the ice he's productive

We'll have to see how it all plays out though
I do understand the complaints about his hockey iq as well
Overall, I like the player

That's the thing though, over the last two years he hasn't been.

I posted the other day that he has the 3rd most ice time of any NHL forward. Yet is only producing at a rate of a 3rd liner (relative to ice time)

When we have more talent, he won't play as much, and will take less shots, so even when his shooting % increases, he still won't score much more

I loved his game last night, he was constantly creating turnovers, he just needs to play like that more than once every 6 or 7 games

We'll see
I get your point, but I do think his shooting % will account for any drop in icetime
Btw,
Where is all this talent coming that's gonna take his icetime?
Besides our top pick, I don't see any other top6 guys coming anytime soon
And even if we did sign a Ladd or Backes, etc...
It's more likely that Girgensons &/or Ennis are the guys that get bumped down & lose PP time

I also think he (and others) will be more productive
I know u think they should be all set by now...
But we've had enough injuries that the lines are constantly changing enough to hinder some guys from finding chemistry
And I do think that's a real thing
Bylsma has made repeated references

Also...
I think Bylsma will open it up the more he gets comfortable that he can let these guys get after it offensively, and not kill us defensively
And that'll help the numbers a lot too

I can guarantee he won't play 20+ minutes a game for too much longer. Eichel's line will take some of those minutes.

U think O'Reilly's line will really lose icetime?
NO WAY

As long as Kane is in the top6, his icetime will remain fairly similar

Gotta give Panarin credit, it's his trophy to lose.
Saying he gets to play with Kane, or is riding Kane's coattails is unfair.
Panarin is outscoring Toews,Hossa,Keith etc. Kane hadn't hit 70 pts in 5 years and did it in 50 games, and its pretty obvious his chemistry with panarin is the main reason.
If Eichel can put a ppg the rest of the way, and finish with about 30g/65 pts, he will have a shot

I do think it's fair to say Panarin is playing with PK88 and that gives him an advantage over some others
It's also tough luck, cb if he keeps at his current pace then he'll win it regardless
That's cool
As long as Eochel keeps getting better, and he has...
I'll be happy

Yes, O'Reilly will lose ice time too. Reinhart and Eichel will get more.

Kane and O'Reilly are averaging 2-3 minutes a night more than Eichel. That's going to change

This team will never come close to a cup with 3 forwards playing the majority of the ice time. When we are good, we will be splitting up ice time

Idk that it'll be all that drastic though
I expect both lines to get a lot of minutes
3rd & 4th lines will be the ones reduced IMO

Either way, I'm not too worried about it
It's not like his icetime will go from 20min to 15min
Maybe down to 18ish
I think he can still be pretty good at that rate

Maybe more than that, but good point

Plus, for what it would take to sign him...
No thanks
